Minutes -Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes of the regularmeeting of March 19, 2009. A motion to accept the minutes with the amended spelling of the name "Schertz" in paragraph 2 of page 4 was made by Lula Mae Schertz and seconded by Earl Sawyer. The motion carried by unanimous vote. 2. Project Assignments - Consideration and/or action regarding museum project assignments an knowledgement of donations (thank you letters). A motion was made by om DeKunder and seconded by Malford Ackermann to approve the following nominees as coordinators and participants for museum exhibit projects and acknowledgement of donations coordinator: City History & Heritage Exhibit -Dean Weirtz (Coordinator), Walter & Lula Mae Schertz Randolph Air Force Base Exhibit -Dean Weirtz (Coordinator), Andreas Wooten, Hal Baldwin Page 2, Schertz Historical Preservation Committee Minutes 4-16-2009 Railroad History Exhibit -Tom DeKunder (Coordinator), Andreas Wooten, Debbie Krause Farming and Early Economic History Exhibit - Malford Ackermann (Coordinator), Beverly Jobe Schertz Fine Arts Exhibit -Merle Behne (Coordinator), Hal Baldwin, Debbie Krause Acknowledgement of donators -Gail Hyatt (To distribute postcard message to donors) The motion to accept the above nominees carried by unanimously vote. 3. Committee By-Laws -Consideration and/or action regarding amendment to the Historical Preservation Committee By-Laws. A motion was made by Tom DeKunder and seconded by Rose Ackerman to accept amendments to Articles XII, Section 12.1 & 12.2 and XIII as contained in Attachment #1 to the minutes. The motion carried by unanimous vote. 4. Budget Approval -Consideration and/or action regarding Fiscal Year 2009 & 2010 budget submissions. A motion was made by Tom DeKunder and seconded by Lula Mae Schertz to accept the proposed FY 2008-2009 budget (contained in Attachment #2) for submission to the City of Schertz for inclusion in the City's mid-year budget submission. The motion carried by unanimous vote. 5. Fund Expenditures - Consideration and/or action regarding Committee fund expenditures. A motion was made by Earl Sawyer and seconded by Malford Ackermann to accept Debbie Krause's submission of a $165.00 expense voucher for reimbursement. The motion carried by unanimous vote. A motion was made by Earl Sawyer and seconded by Merle Behne to accept Dean Weirtz's submission of a $285.99 expense voucher for reimbursement. The motion carried by unanimous vote. 6. May 2009 Committee Meeting -Consideration and/or action regarding cancellation of May 2009 Schertz Historical Preservation Committee meeting. A motion was made by Tom DeKunder and seconded by Lou Foehrkolb to cancel the May 2009 Committee meeting since the Chair would not be in town for the period when the meeting would ordinarily be scheduled. The motion carried by unanimous vote. Page 3, Schertz Historical Preservation Committee Minutes 4-16-2009 REPORTS Cemetery Sub-committee: Gail Hyatt, Subcommittee Chair, presented the completed portfolio for the Schneider Family Cemetery Project. Discussion concluded with the suggestion that a copy be provided for the Schertz City Library Archive Room and another copy for the Schertz Historical Museum. Historian: Lula Mae Schertz provided information regarding a news article published in the local press regarding neighboring Cibolo's multi-use recreation facility being constructed. She also provided historical news and funeral home publication information regarding Ottomar Louis Richard "Pat" Dietz. Outreach Sub-committee: - Chairman Weirtz reported on the meeting of the Comal County Genealogical Society of April 14, 2009 whereat Cherise Bell, Architectural Historian and New Braunfels Preservation Officer spoke on historical preservation efforts in New Braunfels. - Chairman Weirtz reported on the outcome of the Community Hospital dedication ceremony held on March 22, 2009. - Chairman Weirtz sent two books to Dr. Belinda Pustka, SCUCISD Superintendent, for use in the Corbitt Junior High School and at Clemens High School. - Thelma Dowling has agreed to donate a quilt and a stitched material piece to the Schertz History Museum. The pieces will be picked up next week. - Earl Sawyer reported on the donation of supplies and material from the old Schertz Elementary School by SCUCISD. - Lou Foehrkolb reported on coordination efforts with the City Manager's Office with regards to Committee expenditure and budget issues. The outcome of these discussions have been incorporated as provisions in the By-Law amendments noted under Action Item #3. Museum/Kramer House Sub-committee: - Mayor Baldwin reported that Margie Conatser has arranged to provide the Committee with photos and background information regarding her Kramer family ancestors. Page 4, Schertz Historical Preservation Committee Minutes 4-16-2009 Schertz City History Research Project (Phase II) Subcommittee: Book sales have been limited during Apri12009. The unallocated stock balance of books as of April 16, 2009 was 202. T'he Cumulative deposits reported through April 14, 2002 were $6,050.39. Historical Site Designation Subcommittee: Mayor Baldwin reported that he would like to see the Committee consider the old Methodist Church and the old Schertz Mercantile Building as its next historical site designation projects. Requests and Announcements 7. Requests by Committee members that items be placed on a future Agenda. None requested. 8. Request b~'committee Members to City Manager and Staff for information: City Manager's Office has request for purchase order for spinning wheel and loom before it for consideration. 9. Announcements by Committee Members: Chairman Weirtz announced he would be visiting representatives of the Riedisheim, France Historical Society in late May and would present a proclamation of friendship from the Committee to the Society. The Riedisheim Historical Society is currently engaged in genealogy research of the Schertz family and will publish its research in its next Bulletin. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business before the Committee, a motion was made by Earl Sawyer and seconded by Lou Foehrkolb to adjourn. The motion was passed by general consent.
