ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS
The Zoning Board of Adjustments convened in regular session Monday,
January 15, 1979 at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Complex Council Chambers,
1400 Live Oak Road. The following were present:

#1 CALL TO ORDER - The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by the
Chairman, Richard McAleese.
#2 READING OF MINUTES - The minutes of the October 16, 1978 meeting were read ''
Mrs. Grassmeyer made a motion to accept the minutes as read with the
exception of her name as appears in the minutes as Mrs. Archie Grassmeyer
should read Mrs. Doyle Grassmeyer. Motion was seconded by Cecile Tilghman
and unanimously carried.
#3 HEARING OF B.O.A. .CASE #5
This appeal was submitted by Mr. Richard A. Huffman for a variance to City
Zoning Ordinance #74-S-48 which prohibits accessory buildings from being
placed closer than ten feet to the main structure and ten feet fnom the
property line. Approval of this appeal would permit Mr. Huffman to leave
the building in question in its present location. Also, Mr. Huffman requested
waiver of the $25.00 filing fee which had already been paid to the City at
the time of appeal.
After considering Mr. Huffmans letter and testimony which attested that he
had. recently purchased the property at 1000 Curtiss where the building in
question is located and that he had not been informed by the realtor or City
Officials of prohibitions regarding location of utility buildings in back
yards, the Board unanimously granted a variance and waived the $25.00
filing fee.
#4 GENERAL DISCUSSION
Mr. Hill informed the Board of its responsibilities and emphasized its im-
portance form a legal standpoint. The Board was also informed about the
final reading to update the Building Code which would be coming soon. The
Board would get very involved particularly concerning the new electrical
code. Objectors could come to BOA regular meetin s to voice their feelings.
Members are not attending meetings regularly. Those who miss three
meetings without showing good cause should be considered for replacement.
Cecil Tilghman expressed a need for greater coordination by the Board. We
shouldn't .come tc~ meetings COLD and UNINFORMED about issues. Mr. Hill
stated that he is always ~t our disposal. A general discussion ensued~!bt~t
nothing specific was determined. Further pursuance of this matter to keep
members informed and up-to-date is expected.
Mr. Allen Hamblin, Vice Chairman of the BOA submitted letter of resignation
due to returning to school. Letter accepted with regrets and thanks to
Mr. Hamblin for his services to the City of Schertz.
Cecil Tilghman was nominated seconded and unanimously approved to succeed
Mr. Hamblin as Vice Chairman of the City of Schertz, Zoning Board of
Adjustments.
Mrs. Doyle Grassmeyer was nominated, seconded, and unanimously approved to
succeed Mr. Cecil Tilghman as Secreatry of the City of Schertz, Zoning
Board of Adjust~ents.
Mr. Ron Garrison explained the second reading of the Schertz Code to the
Board which will be heard in February.
Mr. Hill gave an excellent briefing concerning the plans for the tract of
land at Hwy. 3009 next to Country Corner.
Mr. Gordon Davis was introduced as the replacement for Mr. Allen Hamblin
who resigned.
