2002R03- CHARITABLE BINGO IN TEXAS RESOLUTION NO. tf) 07- ~--3 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS MARKING THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PASSAGE OF THE LAW THAT AUTHORIZED CHARITABLE BINGO IN TEXAS. WHEREAS, In November, 1980, Texas voters approved a Constitutional Amendment authorizing Charitable Bingo on a local option basis; and, WHEREAS, the Constitutional Amendment requires all Bingo proceeds be spent in Texas for charitable purposes; and, WHEREAS, the voters of the City of Schertz, Texas authorized Charitable Bingo in this jurisdiction; and, WHEREAS, the first Charitable licenses were issued in the Spring of 1982; and, WHEREAS, the year 2002 marks the 20th Anniversary of Charitable Bingo Texas in Texas; and, WHEREAS, in the twenty years of Charitable Bingo, total attendance at Bingo halls has exceeded 479,000,000; and, WHEREAS, total prizes paid out to participants has exceeded $7 billion; and, WHEREAS, distributions for charitable purposes has exceeded $675,000,000; and WHEREAS, the treasury of the City of Schertz receives allocations of fees and taxes from the operation of Charitable Bingo in this jurisdiction; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS: THAT, the year 2002 be proclaimed as the 20th Anniversary of Charitable Bingo in the City of Schertz.
