2001R29- EL CAMINO REAL DE LOS TEJAS Resolution No. 17 1- ~ - ,;L 'I Resolution BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE INCLUSION OF EL CAMINO REAL DE LOS TEJAS IN THE NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL SYSTEM. Whereas, the National Park Service has completed a Congressionally mandated study regarding the inclusion of El Camino Real de Los Tejas in the National Trail System and found that this important trail system meets all the criteria for designation; Whereas, the Caminos Reales in Texas have contributed significantly to the development of our great state and our sister states to the east and west as well as the country of Mexico; Whereas, designation of this more than three-hundred-year-old trail can contribute significantly to the economic well being of communities and rural areas along the route by sparking and enhancing heritage tourism and providing a vehicle for national and international marketing; Whereas, designation of this route calls attention to the magnificent cultural diversity of our state and to the important Hispanic contributions to Texas; Whereas, participation on the part of landowners in the Camino Real de Los Tejas National Historic Trail program is Entirely voluntary; Now Therefore, be it resolved that we, the City of Schertz, enthusiastically supports the creation of El Camino Real de Los Tejas National Historic Trail in the knowledge that in fostering and marketing our magnificent history, not only do we honor those who have come before, but we also create a better future through enriched economic opportunities for all of those who live along this historic route. THAT, this Resolution shall be in force and effect from and after its final passage, and it is so resolved. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADO PIED this the l1:lh day of September, 200 I.
