A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE TEXAS FOREST
SERVICE ACCEPT AND CONSIDER A GRANT
APPLICATION
WHEREAS, the City of Schertz regards the presence of trees as
one of its many assets and values them for their
aesthetic quality and their enhancement of the
environment: and
WHEREAS, the addition of more trees, and especially those in
urban areas, will help to improve the quality of
life for those residents and visitors who enjoy
them: and
WHEREAS, the Texas Forest Service has taken a leading role in
the planting, maintenance and preservation of trees
in urban areas in recent times, making the
management of urban forests a primary goal: and
WHEREAS, the United States Forest Service in cooperation with
the Texas Forest Service has made urban tree
planting grant funds available through the
establishment of the Urban and Community
Forestry-Challenge Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Schertz is desirous of benefiting from
this newly established program and wishes to request
funding for urban tree enhancement; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ,
TEXAS:
THAT the Schertz City Council does hereby request that the
Texas Forest Service accept and consider this grant
application on behalf of the urban and Community
Forestry-Challenge Grant Program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be
spread upon the minutes of the City and that duplicate
originals hereby be forwarded to the Texas Forest Service as
evidence of this body's support of this grant application,
the tree planting project requested in the application, and
the long term maintenance of these trees to be planted.
