A RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS, CONTINUING THE CITY'S
OPPOSITION TO THE STORAGE AND BURNING OF
HAZARDOUS WASTE AS FUEL BY THE LAFARGE
CORPORATION AND/OR THE SYSTECH ENVIRONMENTAL
CORPORATION AT ITS CEMENT MANUFACTURING
FACILITY LOCATED IN COMAL COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Schertz, Texas
has the responsibility to protect the health and welfare of its
citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City of Schertz has determined that it is
in the public interest to protect the environmental conditions
within the City of Schertz and its water resources; and
WHEREAS, the burning and storage of hazardous waste at
the LaFarge Cement Plant in Comal County might affect the
environment and the health of citizens within a large radius or
the plant; and
WHEREAS, although there has been great progress
regarding the City's opposition to the aforementioned storage
and burning of hazardous waste, the City Council feels that it
is in the best interest of the Citizens of Schertz to continue
opposing the LaFarge/Systech applications for permits to store
and burn hazardous waste as fuel.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ,
TEXAS:
That the City of Schertz
the permit application of
Environmental Corporation for
hazardous waste as fuel in Cornal
PASSED,
hereby expresses opposition to
LaFarge Corporation/Systech
the storage and burning of
County.
