A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS,
IN OPPOSITION OF THE POST OAK CLEAN GREEN LANDFILL TCEQ
PROPOSED PERMIT # 2378
WHEREAS, The City of Schertz, as a member of the Schertz Seguin Local
Government Corporation (SSLGC), owns and operates twelve public water supply wells which
produce groundwater from the Carrizo formation in Gonzales County and four public water
supply wells in Guadalupe County; and
WHEREAS, The City of Schertz, tlu~ough its membership of SSLGC, also plans
additional wells for production of groundwater fiom both the Carrizo formation and the
adjacent Wilcox formation (the Cairizo/Wilcox Aquifer) in Guadalupe and/or Gonzales
Counties; and
WHEREAS, the Carrizo/Wilcox Aquifer is one of the State's major aquifers, and this
aquifer is now being developed as a major source of water for municipal water supply for the
increasing population along the 1H-35 and IH-10 corridors; and
WHEREAS, the preservation of the groundwater quality and the long-term availability
of groundwater as a reliable source of public water supply defines the City's most immediate
interest; and
WHEREAS, the proposed landfill tlueatens both the quality and long-term availability
of groundwater upon which residents and businesses of the City of Schertz rely,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SCHERTZ, TEXAS:
Is opposed to the Post Oak Clean Green Landfill TCEQ proposed Permit # 2378.
