08-05-2013SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING AUGUST 5, 2013 Members Present: Sonia Samora, Ruth Tienor, Pattie Lovelady, Sandy Keiser, Brian James, Laura Wilson,loanne Ward, Mary McAllister, Bobbie Boyce, Neata Brady, Margaret Riley, Gail Douglas, Pattl Dilworth Visitors: Lizzie Bertoia, April Toman, i-lowson Lau would like to help ar became a member of the library board; Mike Vajdos did a presentation on Better investing. CALL TO ORDER: Sonia Samora called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. REGULAR AGENbA: Minutes: Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes fortune 3, 2013 meeting. Ruth Tienor moved to accept the June minutes after corrections. Mary McAllister seconds the motion. The June 3, 2013 minutes were approved after corrections. Treasurer`s Report: Consideration and/or action regarding the approva! of the Treasurer's ReporC. The June bookstore sales were 1548.31. The consignment sales for June were 83.41. The overall total for June was 1740.57. Pattie Lovelady moved to accept the June treasurer's report as presented. Sandy Keiser seconds the motion. The June Treasurer's report was approved as presented. Librarian's Report: Librarians will report on the following items: The May Statistics: Total Library circulation 33,369, Total Visitors 21,552, Library Program Attendance 1007, Total Collection 85,340 items, Regular Borrowers 29,695, New Library Cards issued 274, Library Cards Renewed 469, Self-check out 12,846, Electronic Resources 986, Volunteer hours 318 %, Volunteers 40, ILL [Inter Library Loans) 151, Meeting room usage 69, Internet usage 3,467. The June Statistics: Total Library circulation 40,969, Total Visitors 24,468, Library Program Attendance 1678, Total Collection 85,706 items, Regular Borrowers 30,264, New Library Cards issued 582, Library Cards Renewed 514, Self-check out 16,637, Electronic Resources 996, Volunteer hours 465.25 , Volunteers 56, ILL [Inter Library Loans) 158, Meeting room usage 64, Internet usage 3,627. Lizzie Bertoia and April Toman presented the summer reading programs recap. Bath had huge success, Lizzie Bertoia presented the numbers for the adult reading program: 53 adult prizes were presented, 241,000 hours read and 210 participated in the program. April Toman presented the numbers for the children's reading program: 2 adult leaders, 20 teen volunteers, 84 different programs in 7 weeks, 244,800 minutes read in SO days, 5 exotic animals, and 1 circus clown. Bookstore Committee Report: committee reported on the fallowing items: The general operations of the bookstore far lone and July: New volunteers in bookstore--Most shifts have two volunteers to cover the bookstore, except Monday and Thursday afternoons. Clean-up day far the workroom is set up for Thursday August 8, 2013 from 5;00 to 8:00. The Bookstore received a large donation. The book sale was success. Shonale Burke, Bobbie Boyce and Juan Thorn were the chairs for the sale. It was a record sale at 660.30. Safe protocol is established and working well. The recycle dumpster was set on fire. There will be no recycle donation for the month. DISCUSSION &POSSIBLE ACTION Library cameras were removed from discussion. More research was needed into this subject. ANNOUNCEMENTS Correspondence received -Shonale Burke's resignation letter. Announcements by library Board members- Shonale Burke resigned from the library Board. She had conflicts with her schedule. Gail Douglas discussed the Senior Center Gala on August 16, 2013 at the Civic Center. There will be a silent auction; the library will donate a basket. The September meeting will be held an September 9, 2013.
