The Schertz Board of Adjustment convened on April 16, 2014 at the Municipal Complex, Community
Center, 1400 Schertz Parkway Building #3, Schertz, Texas.

Mr. Dziewit called the special joint meeting of the Board of Adjustment, Economic Development
Board, and Planning and Zoning Commission to order at 6:04 p.m. No other board had a quorum
present.
Discussion regarding revisions to the Schertz Unified Development Code (UDC), Section 21.9.5
Exterior Construction and Design Standards with the following points:
• Introduction
• Welcome
• Introductions
Discussion of ordinance goals
• Ordinance to be revised to clarify language. Easy to understand/ interpret
• Categorize by zoning and/ or building type
• Creativity and innovation with sustainable materials
Problems with current ordinance
• Glazing
• Functionality
■ Safety
• Material Requirements
• Does not allow accent materials on the front fagade
■ Masonry needs to be redefined
o Articulations
■ Revise language to clarify
Not written for all buildings
■ Types of paint, texture to provide visual appeal
Visual survey of building types and category explanations
