Board Members present: Eric Haugen, Vice - Chairman, Reginna Agee, Mark Davis, Harriet
Higgs, Sally Macias, Jeff Sanna and Fae Simmons.
Staff present: Brian James, Executive Director Development Services, Chuck Van Zandt, Parks
Manager and Sandy Bryant, Sr. Administrative Assistant.
Others present: Mr. Bob Cantu, Mr. T. Jake Jacobs, and Mr. Ron LaJoie.
Call to order. Meeting was called to order by Eric Haugen, Vice - Chairman at 5:33 p.m.

There were no residents to be heard.
Regular Agenda:
Agenda Item No. 1. Minutes. Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes
from the September 28, 2015 regular meeting.
Motion was made to approve the minutes from the September 28, 2015 Schertz Parks and
Recreation Advisory Board regular meeting as amended.

Agenda Item No. 2. Presence of Dogs in City Parks Mr. Chuck VanZandt briefed the Board
regarding the presence of dogs in Crescent Bend Nature Park and designated ballfields.
Motion was made to ban all dogs in designated ballfields and for staff to draft a sign for dogs at
Crescent Bend Nature Park and bring it back to the board for their approval.

Agenda Item No. 3. Information/Update Concerning Parks Foundation Checks to Buffalo Valley
Youth Association (BVYA) and Schertz Youth Soccer Alliance (SYSA). Mr. Bob Cantu from the
Parks Foundation updated the Parks Advisory Board that previously the Foundation was receiving
five dollars for each BVYA and SYSA player. This policy has since been discontinued by
recommendation of the Parks Advisory Board; so the foundation closed the account and cut checks
returning the money to BVYA and SYSA.
Agenda Item No. 4. Parks and Facility Maintenance Update Mr. Chuck Van Zandt updated the
Board on the following:
• Final plans for the ADA parking area at the Dog Park are completed and it is out for bid.
• Pickrell Park Pool liner work is scheduled for March of 2106.
• Landscape refurbishing of various City campuses is underway by Kolorkist Cleaning &
Restoration Services.
• An ordinance authorizing a budget adjustment for the Aquatic Facility construction was
approved on October 20, 2015.
• Maldonado Nursery & Landscaping, Inc. has almost completed the landscaping at the
Maske Road Soccer Complex.
• Modifications of the Aero Street restrooms in Pickrell Park to make them ADA compliant is
scheduled to begin November 5, 2015.
Requests and Announcements:
Agenda Item No. 5. Request by Advisory Board Chairman and Board members for items to be
placed on a future Board agenda. The Board requested the following items be placed on future
agendas:
• Organizational chart for Boards and Commissions, and Bexar County.
• Updates on balances of the Parkland Dedication and Tree Mitigation Funds and what
expenditures have been made this past year. Also want to know what can and can't be done
with these funds.
• Parks and Recreation fees.
Agenda Item No. 6. Announcements by Advisory Board Chairman and members The next Board
meeting will be November 30, 2015. The Maske Road Soccer Complex ribbon cutting is scheduled
for Oct. 31, 2015 if it doesn't rain. There were no other announcements by Advisory Board
Chairman or members.
