Mechanical Permit Information Revised 6-2016-TD6-2016 Rev TD MECHANICAL PERMITS WHEN IS A MECHANICAL PERMIT REQUIRED? A person, firm or corporation shall not erect, construct, enlarge, add to, alter, repair, replace, improve, remove, install, convert, demolish, equip, use, occupy or maintain a structure or building service equipment without first obtaining a permit from the Inspection Department. This regulation applies to all structures or improvements; residential, commercial or industrial, temporary or permanent. WHO CAN OBTAIN A MECHANICAL PERMIT? A homeowner may obtain his own permit for work at his residence or other residential property he owns. Mechanical contractors, properly licensed by the State of Texas, and registered with the City may also obtain permits and perform work. Mechanical contractors are required to obtain permits and perform work on commercial property. All mechanical work shall comply with the Internal Mechanical Code and any revisions as adopted and enforced by the City of Schertz. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO OBTAIN A MECHANICAL PERMIT? A permit is usually issued within 1 to 2 working days providing all information and necessary documents are provided and depending on the complexity of the project. WHAT IS THE COST OF A MECHANICAL PERMIT? $ 60.00 for the initial permit fee. ARE INSPECTIONS REQUIRED OF MECHANICAL WORK? Yes. Depending on the complexity of the project, several inspections may be required. You will be advised as to the inspections necessary for your project at the time your permit is issued. HOW LONG ARE PERMITS GOOD FOR? Permits are good for 6 months as long as there is activity on the job site.
