REGULAR MEETING
December 19, 2014
A Regular Meeting was held by the Schertz Animal Advisory Committee of the City of Schertz,
Texas, on December 19, 2014 at 2:30 p.m.
LOCATION: City of Schertz Animal Adoption Center,
800 Community Circle, Schertz, Texas.
Committee Members Present: Marshal Harris, Director; City of Schertz Marshal's Office, Dr.
Brooke Knowlton; DVM, Councilmember Grumpy Azzoz, Chairman Sharma Roman, Animal
Services Division Manager, Lisa Connolly, Schertz Humane Society
Staff Present: Administrative Asst. Jacki Marbach
Others Present:
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Shanna Roman at 2:57pm
Hearinsz of Residents: There were no residents to be heard.
Regular Agenda:
Discussion and possible action:
1. Agenda Item No. 1. Animal Services Adoption Facility Update- Discussion on the new
Animal Adoption Facility. Chairman Shannon Roman provided an update regarding the
adoption facility as they are working with contractor on repairs to the facility as warranty
time period is running out. Marshal Harris and Shanna went over the repairs that are
needed and have already been repaired. Also talked about sound boards in some rooms to
take echo down. No action was taken on this item.
2. Agenda Item No. 2. Animal Services Volunteer Update- Discussion on abundance of
volunteers, the new building is helping attract new visitors. John Sabo has been doing dog
training classes at the shelter, he has done three already and has a full schedule for next
year. No action taken on this item.
3. Agenda Item No. 3. Minutes- Discussion and/or approval of the May 15, 2013 minutes.
Motion was made to approve the minutes from the May 15, 2013 meeting.
Councilman Azzoz abstained due to not being on the board at that time.

�-- 4. Agenda Item No. 4. Animal Adoption Trailer Update- Discussion regarding Animal
Adoption Trailer purchase. City Council will match funds for trailer. No deadline to get
the funds. Fundraisers with Homes for Pets. Trailer will help tremendously with adoption
events and getting the animals closer to their forever homes and keeping
volunteers /employees and animals out of the elements. Heated and Air conditioned. This
will allow Animal Services to get out and do more community wise as well. No Action
Taken
5. Agenda Item No. 5. Trap/Neuter/Release Program - Discussion to develop a program
to trap /neuter /release program to keep from euthanizing so many and keep them from
breeding for population control. Spoke about Kirby's program they have. Shanna Roman
wants to present program to council at later date. Positive feedback from Councilman
Azzoz and Homes for Pets. Moving forward to try to bring program to Schertz. Follow up
at next meeting.
6. Announcements by Advisory Committee Chairman and Members — Discussion about
increase of intake and money, Dog Park opening and positive feedback about the new
shelter. Doggie Dash May 16, 2015.
7. Announcements by City Staff — The date for the next meeting has not been determined at
this time but the Committee will be notified as soon as the date is set.
