Board Members present: Johnie McDow, Chairman, John Sullivan, Vice - Chairman, William Bosch,
Jim Fowler, Robert Sheridan and Floy Simmons.
Staff present: Brian James, Executive Director Development Services, Lauren Shrum, Assistant
Director Parks, Recreation and Community Services and Sandy Bryant, Sr. Administrative Assistant.
Others present: Mr. Branch Archer and Mr. Joel Tanner
Call to order. Meeting was called to order by Mr. Johnie McDow, Chairman at 5:30 p.m.
Hearing of residents:
Mr. Branch Archer spoke on the success of the Large Item Drop Off event at Crescent Bend Nature Park
over the weekend. All items were placed in the bins and bins should be picked up this week.
Regular Agenda:
Agenda Item No. 1. Minutes. Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the minutes from
the September 25 2017 regular meeting.
Motion was made to approve the minutes from the September 25, 2017 Schertz Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board regular meeting.

Agenda Item No. 2. No -Name Park Update. Ms. Lauren Shrum briefed the Advisory Board that the
survey has about 81 responses so far, fourteen had geographic suggestions, twelve were patriotic
suggestions, thirteen historical references and other various names. Public Affairs did not put up the
Boards policy for naming parks so not all suggestions met the criteria. There are approximately thirty
days left for the survey and Ms. Shrum will make sure Public Affairs to add the naming policy. Board
individual members will review current list and eliminate any names they don't want submitted. Once
survey is completed any additional names will be sent to the Board to select the top five names at the
November meeting to submit to City Council for their approval. No action was taken on this item.
Agenda Item No. 3 Cibolo Creek Trail Update Ms. Shrum briefed the Advisory Board that the staff had
met with Selma about the meeting of the trails between the two cities Selma's consultant has met with
Universal City but Schertz staff has not met with Universal City yet. City of Schertz is trying to limit
vehicular access to the trail. Eventually the staff would like to have the primitive trail go from Schertz
all the way to IH 35. The staff is also looking at future use of some solar activated glow rocks for the
primitive trail. Discussion only no action was taken on this item.
Agenda Item No. 4. Committee of Committees Advisory Board (CCAB) Update The CCAB did not
meet in October. No action was taken on this item.
Requests and Announcements:
Agenda Item No. 5. Request by Advisory Board Chairman and Board members for items to be placed
on a future Board agenda. The Advisory Board requested the following items be included on future
agendas:
• Naming of No Name Park.
• Use of school basketball courts by the public.
Agenda Item No. 6. Announcements by Advisory Board Chairman and members Vice Chairman John
Sullivan briefed the Advisory Board on his attendance at the regional meeting with Seguin, Boerne,
New Braunfels and TXDOT.
Ms. Shrum briefed the Advisory Board on the following upcoming events:
• October 28, 2017, 5 -9pm Movie in the Park and Trunk or Treat in Pickrell Park.
• November 1 -2, 2017 TRAPS Central Region Workshop & Rodeo in Schertz.
• November 9, 2017 Star party at Crescent Bend Nature Park.
• November 11, 2017 Nature Discovery Series: What's Flying at Crescent Bend Nature
Park.
• November 16, 2017 Birding Walk at Crescent Bend Nature Park.
• November 18, 2017 Parks Tour starting at City Hall Complex.
The next Advisory Board meeting will be November 27, 2017.
