Call to Order The Committee meeting was called to order by Chairman Weirtz at 6:30 pm. Voting members present: LaDonna Bacon, Lou Foehrkolb, Lynn Foehrkolb, David Lynch, Pete Perez, Elizabeth Strong, Dean Weirtz and Rosalyn Wise. Introduction of Guests and /or New Members Also in attendance: Ray Nichols (from the City of Schertz) Noah White (President of Samuel Clemens HS History Club) Robert Lindley (Vice President of Samuel Clemens History Club) Marc Thornton (Advisor to Samuel Clemens History Club) Discussion and /or Action Items 1. Minutes - Consideration and /or action regarding the approval of the minutes of the regular meeting of July 13, 2017 and the special meeting of August 14, 2017. The motion was made by David Lynch and seconded by Pete Perez to approve the minutes of both meetings as submitted. The motion passed unanimously. 2. Fund Expenditures - Consideration and/or action regarding the submission of member's expense vouchers and approvals for fund expenditures. Chairman Weirtz submitted a voucher for expenditures in the amount of $25.20. A motion to approve the voucher submission was made by Lou Foehrkolb and seconded by Rosalyn Wise. The motion was approved by unanimous vote. 3. Treasurer's Report - Consideration and/or action regarding book sales activity during the last calendar quarter and other fiscal matters. Chairman Weirtz, in the absence of Treasurer Paul Ringenbach, reported book sales for the quarter. There were nine books sold (eight photo books and one original Schertz history book). Total revenue from book sales was $215.00. 4. Publication of Spring 2017 Committee Newsletter and Remembrances Special Edition Article - Consideration and /or action regarding the publication of the Fall 2017 Committee newsletter and Remembrances Special Edition Articles 2017 -5 and 2017 -6. A motion was made by Rosalyn Wise and seconded by David Lynch to authorize publication of both the newsletter and the two articles. The motion passed by unanimous vote. 5. Publication of Calendar Year 2018 "Looking Back" features — Consideration and /or action regarding the publication of the Calendar Year 2018 "Looking Back" feature for the Schertz Magazine. A motion was made by Pete Perez and seconded by Rosalyn Wise to approve the publication of the Calendar Year 2018 "Looking Back" magazine features. The motion passed by unanimous vote. 6. Schertz Landmark Property Designation Nominations — Consideration and/or action regarding Schertz landmark property designation nominations. There were no Landmark designation nominations offered. Chairman Weirtz suggested that the Dietz family home might be a significant property. LaDonna Bacon, Rosalyn Wise and Chairman Weirtz will research the history of this home. 7. Revision of Committee By -Laws — Consideration and /or action regarding the amendment of the Committee's By -laws. Subcommittee members presented proposed amendments to the By -Laws. A motion to accept the subcommittee's recommendations was made by David Lynch and seconded by Pete Perez. The motion passed unanimously. 8. Social Media presence for the Committee - Consideration and/or action regarding Committee participation in social media platforms. Discussion of the proposed social media Committee involvement was held. Elizabeth Strong proposed that the Committee post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in order to reach people of different age groups and interests. She volunteered to manage all the Committee's social media accounts. A motion to approve a social media program for the Committee to include Facebook, Twitter and Instagram was made by Rosalyn Wise and seconded by LaDonna Bacon. The motion passed unanimously. 9. Biblioteck - Biblioboard Project - Consideration and /or action regarding membership in the regional Bibliotecka — Biblioboard Project. The subcommittee reported on its progress. No action needed. 10. Heritage Neighborhood Banners - Old Town and Aviation Heights - Consideration and/or action regarding replacement and addition of Heritage Neighborhood banners. Chairman reported on the damage to banners resulting from weather related to Hurricane Harvey. There have been replacement banners ordered which are expected to be received soon and then installed. 11. Committee 2017 Goals pursuit. Consideration and/or action regarding Committee 2017 goal pursuit. Chairman Weirtz provided a review of the Committee's progress in accomplishing the Committee's 2017 goals. No action required. Subcommittee Reports — Discussion only Historian - Nothing to report By -Laws Revision - Completed Biblioteck/Biblioboard — Complete Social Media — Complete - Outreach — SCUCISD Student Essay & Art Contest; Clemens H.S. local history exhibit and satellite gallery sites; Clemens High School Anniversary Event Nov. 4th); Judging of the SHPC /SCUCISD Student Art & Essay Contest Nov. 2° ; Comal County Genealogy Society presentation ( "Schertz Trails "); October 21St Community Clean -up (Pecan Grove); coordination with Northeast Community Collage re: artifacts at Lower Valley School; Participation at the Schertz Citizen's Volunteer Appreciation Banquet — Oct. 26t , Presentation scheduled with Schertz Genealogy Group Nov. 7t ; David Lynch proposed that the Committee start a video legacy project. This project would involve interviewing long term residents of the local community. Pete Perez volunteered to assist David Lynch in researching this project. Requests and Announcements 12.
