The Committee’s nomination package for Heritage Neighborhood status for the former community of Comal Settlement was approved by City Council at its October 22, 2019 meeting. The area is one of the earliest settlements occupied by original immigrants accompanying the “Nobleman’s Society For the Protection of Germans in Texas” (AKA: “Mainzer Adelsverein”) to New Braunfels in the mid-19th century. The Cibolo Valley Community Museum Association (CVCMA) is currently planning the development of two historic museum projects. One project involves placing historic railroad artifacts, photos and furnishings within the red 2 caboose that sits in the parking lot of the future Guadalupe County Annex Building (former Riedel Furniture Store on FM 78) parking lot area. The second project involves establishment of a historic Cibolo Valley museum venue within the common areas of the soon to be restored Riedel Furniture Store at FM 78. Volunteers who might like to assist with these projects can contacting Dean Weirtz, Telephone: 210-651-0394. Additional satellite historic gallery development has been continued this quarter by CVCMA involving two business facilities in Cibolo, Texas. On September 3, 2019, an excellent presentation of Lipan Indian history and customs was made by Juan S. Garcia, Secretary, Lipan Apache Council of Texas. The presentation was held at the Schertz Public Library. The program was sponsored by the Schertz Area Genealogy Club. A summary of the presentation’s content is contained in the attached Remembrances Special Addition 2019-6 article. Committee membership was well represented at the September 12. 2019 City Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Committee officer nominations for calendar year 2020 were received and will be voted upon at the January 2020 Committee meeting.
