SCHERTZ BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
JANUARY 18, 1994
The Schertz Board of Adjustment convened on Tuesday, January
18, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the
Municipal Complex, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, Texas.
The following members were present: Chairman Earl W.
Sawyer, Barbara Stanhope, Mary Marsh and Ken Greenwald.
Absent: Joe Potempa and Hal Baldwin.
Mr. Sawyer welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked that
they rise and join him in the Pledge of Allegiance.
#1 BOA HEARING: The purpose of the hearing was to
receive citizen's comments on a request by Leonard Little of
508 Curtiss Avenue for a Special Exception to the Zoning
Ordinance allowing him to construct two portable carports,
one on either side of his residence.
Mr. Sweatt passed around pictures of the carports, showing
the location of one. He then stated that one carport was
one foot from the property line and the other was proposed
to be placed six feet from the property line and about two
feet from the house. Under the Zoning regulations, there
should be a total of fifteen feet for side yards. This
would be a total of seven feet, which would require the
eight foot variance. We have mailed 37 letters to property
owners within 200 feet of this property, with four being
returned - three in favor and one against.
Mr. Sawyer asked if there were any residents who wished to
voice their opinions on this request.
Mr. Bill Knight said he owns the property on each side of
this property and he felt the carports really add to the
appearance of the house and the whole street. He said he
had no qualms about this.
There being no further citizen's input or comments from the
Board, Mr. Sawyer declared the hearing closed at 7:07 p.m.
#2 Consider and take action on the above request by
Mr. Leonard Little.
Mrs. Marsh moved to approve the request by Mr. Little for
two carports. Mr. Greenwald seconded the motion, which
carried with the following vote:
AYES: Members Stanhope, Marsh and Greenwald.
NAYS: None
