BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MEETING
MARCH 15,1994
The Schertz Board of Adjustment convened on Tuesday, March
15, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the
Municipal Complex, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, Texas.
The following members were present: Chairman Earl W.
Sawyer, presiding; Joe Potempa; Hal Baldwin; Barbara
Stanhope; Mary Marsh and Ken Greenwald. Staff present were
City Manager Kerry Sweatt and City Secretary June Krause.
Mr. Sawyer opened the meeting by asking everyone to rise
and join him in the Pledge of Allegiance.
In his capacity as Mayor, Mr. Sawyer then called Nancy King
and Mary Lou Malone, Director, of SAFES forward and read a
proclamation naming April 4-10, 1994 as "SAFES EMS WEEK" and
urged everyone to express their appreciation to SAFES on
their 20th Anniversary. There were nine members of SAFES
present.
Mayor Sawyer then presented a Certificate of Appreciation to
Mike McGregor of National Guardian Security Corporation for
donating and installing a security system in the Buffalo
Valley Youth Association (BVYA) building on Oak Street.
Immediately thereafter, Mike Biggs, President of BVYA, also
presented Mr. McGregor with a Certificate of Appreciation
from their group.
#1 PUBLIC HEARING: The purpose of the hearing is for
the Board of Adjustment to receive citizen comments on a
request by Ira and Carolyn Garrett of 3712 Hull Street for a
4' rear-yard setback exception to the Zoning Ordinance to
allow them to cover the existing rear patio with a sun room.
Mr. Sweatt advised that notices were sent to all those
property owners within 300' of this property. There were 48
notices mailed and 8 were returned from people who were in
favor of granting the request. One was returned because
there had not been a house built on the lot. The request is
for a 4' exception to the rear-yard setback. There is an
existing slab, put in when the house was built. Now the
owners want to cover this with a sun room and by enclosing
this it does require an exception. Planning and Zoning
Commission has reviewed this and recommends approval.
There were no comments from the Garretts, nor
citizen wish to speak on this item. The Council
questions or comments.
