S-BOA 03-15-1994 105 BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MEETING MARCH 15,1994 The Schertz Board of Adjustment convened on Tuesday, March 15, 1994 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Complex, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, Texas. The following members were present: Chairman Earl W. Sawyer, presiding; Joe Potempa; Hal Baldwin; Barbara Stanhope; Mary Marsh and Ken Greenwald. Staff present were City Manager Kerry Sweatt and City Secretary June Krause. Mr. Sawyer opened the meeting by asking everyone to rise and join him in the Pledge of Allegiance. In his capacity as Mayor, Mr. Sawyer then called Nancy King and Mary Lou Malone, Director, of SAFES forward and read a proclamation naming April 4-10, 1994 as "SAFES EMS WEEK" and urged everyone to express their appreciation to SAFES on their 20th Anniversary. There were nine members of SAFES present. Mayor Sawyer then presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Mike McGregor of National Guardian Security Corporation for donating and installing a security system in the Buffalo Valley Youth Association (BVYA) building on Oak Street. Immediately thereafter, Mike Biggs, President of BVYA, also presented Mr. McGregor with a Certificate of Appreciation from their group. #1 PUBLIC HEARING: The purpose of the hearing is for the Board of Adjustment to receive citizen comments on a request by Ira and Carolyn Garrett of 3712 Hull Street for a 4' rear-yard setback exception to the Zoning Ordinance to allow them to cover the existing rear patio with a sun room. Mr. Sweatt advised that notices were sent to all those property owners within 300' of this property. There were 48 notices mailed and 8 were returned from people who were in favor of granting the request. One was returned because there had not been a house built on the lot. The request is for a 4' exception to the rear-yard setback. There is an existing slab, put in when the house was built. Now the owners want to cover this with a sun room and by enclosing this it does require an exception. Planning and Zoning Commission has reviewed this and recommends approval. There were no comments from the Garretts, nor citizen wish to speak on this item. The Council questions or comments. did any had no Mr. Sawyer closed the public hearing at 7:07 p.m. #2 Consider and take action on the above request by the Garretts. J 06 Mrs. Marsh moved to approve the request by the Garrets for an exception to cover their existing slab with a sun room. Mr. Greenwald seconded the motion, which carried as follows: AYES: Mr. Potempa, Mr. Baldwin, Mrs. Stanhope, Mrs. Marsh and Mr. Greenwald.
