S BOA 05-18-1993 i b"') -'- ~ BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MEETING MAY 18, 1993 The Schertz Board of Adjustment convened Tuesday, May 18, 1993 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Complex, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, Texas. The following members were present: Earl W. Sawyer, presiding; Joe Potempa; Hal Baldwin; Barbara Stanhope; Mary Marsh and Ken Greenwald. Staff present were City Manager Kerry Sweatt and City Secretary June Krause. Mayor Sawyer opened the meeting by asking everyone to stand and join him in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Sawyer then recognized Alba C. Richburg of 1005 Fawn Drive as the City of Schertz "Star of the Month" for April. He read a proclamation to this effect and presented it to Mrs. Richburg, along with a beautiful filled basket from "The Pecan House", one of our local businesses. Mayor Sawyer expressed to Mrs. Richburg how proud the City is to have her as one of our citizens. #1 PUBLIC HEARING: .The purpose of the public hearing was for the Board of Adjustment to receive citizen comments on the request by Sue Martin of 2705 Hidden Grove Lane, Schertz, Texas, for a Special Exception to the Zoning Ordinance allowing her to extend a deck and cover 4' into the required rear yard setback. Mr. Sweatt advised that we had received a letter from Sue Martin expressing her sincere regrets that she would be unable to attend this meeting because of previous commitment. She urged Council's favorable consideration of her request. Mr. Sweatt related that 45 letters were mailed to property owners within three hundred feet of this address and eight were returned - all in favor of granting the request. This was first brought to Planning & Zoning and after their review, they recommended this hearing and favorable consideration of the request for a Special Exception. Mayor Sawyer asked if there were any citizens who wished to speak on this request - there were none. Nor were there any comments from Council. #2 Consider and take action on the above request by Sue Martin. Mr. Greenwald moved to approve the request by Mrs. Martin of 2705 Hidden Grove Lane for a Special Exception. Mrs. Stanhope seconded the motion, which carried as follows: i r, n .
