REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 15, 1993
The Schertz City Council convened in Reqular Session, Tuesday,
June 15, 1993 at 7:02 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the
Municipal Complex, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, Texas. The
followinq members were present: Mayor Earl W. Sawyer,
presidinqi Joe Potempai Hal Baldwini Mary Marsh and Ken
Greenwald. Staff present were Asst. City Manaqer Steve
Simonson and Deputy City Secretary Norma Althouse.
#1 APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A. BOA meetinq 6-1-93

Marsh moved to approve the minutes of the BOA meetinq
and the minutes of the Reqular meetinq 6-1-93. Mr.
seconded the motion, which carried with the followinq

#2 HEARING OF RESID6J.'.LS: Mr. Adolph Aquilar related
he had attended a seminar at AACOG on the Procurement Outreach
proqram which offers ways for companies to obtain help. Mr.
Aquilar wondered if the Chamber of Commerce is aware of this
program and had brouqht some information about it.
Mrs. Marsh commented this information more appropriately
should be qiven to Mark Marquez.
Mr. Aquilar also mentioned he thouqht it would be nice to have
reflectors on the guard posts at the Maske Road and Schertz
Parkway intersection.
#3 TABLE OF ORGANIZATION: Consider and take action on
proposed chanqes to the Table of Orqanization
Mrs. Marsh moved to approve the proposed chanqes to the Table
of Orqanization. Mr. Greenwald seconded the motion.
Before the vote, Mr. Potempa commented these chanqes to the
Table of Orqanization represent a well thouqht out plan. It
will consolidate three departments, it places the riqht people
in the riqht positions, it eliminates some fat, and it will
save the taxpayers money. Mr. Potempa commended the staff on
a job well done.
Mayor Sawyer then called for a vote on the motion, which
carried as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Potempa, Baldwin, Marsh and Greenwald.
NAYS: None.

14 APPOINTMENTS: A. Consider and
appointing Pia Jarman and Tony Moreno to fill

B. Consider and take action on appointing Merwin Willman as
Secretary of the Commission.
Mr. Baldwin moved to approve the appointment of Merwin Willman
as Secretary of the Commission. Mrs. Marsh seconded the
motion, which carried with the following vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Potempa, Baldwin, Marsh and Greenwald.
NAYS: None.
IS CITY MANAGER'S REPORT:
Mr. Simonson advised that FM 3009 will be closed for two days,
June 16 and 17, from Elbel to FM 78.
16 ITEMS BY COUNCIL: Mr. PotemDa requested that
discussion of the light poles on Pfeil Road and 1-10 be an
agenda item for the June 29th workshop.
Mrs. Marsh reported on the July 3/4 Jubilee. The committee
had a meeting today and things are coming together with
everyone's help. The Clemens band will be larger this year,
they have invited alumni to perform. The choir needs male
voices. If anyone's interested, rehearsal will be July 2nd in
the band room.
Mr~ Greenwald remarked they took the float to Blanco Saturday.
They didn't win any awards, but met lots of nice people.
17 ITEMS BY MAYOR: A. Mentioned receiving a $100
check from Representative Kuempel who couldn't attend the
Fire Department Barbeque. Stated the City may want to send
a letter of thanks from the Fire Department.
B. Noted BVYA closed its season Saturday. They had 42 teams
partiCipate this year.

#8 ADJOURNMENT
On a motion by Mr. Baldwin, seconded by Mr. Potempa and
unanimously carried, the meetinq was adjourned at 7:13 p.m.
