JOINT MEETING OF THE SCHERTZ CITY COUNCIL
AND THE PLANNING & ZONING
COMMISSION - JUNE 14, 1978
The Schertz City Council met Jointly with the Planning & Zoning Commission
Wednesday, June 14, 1978 at 7:00 P.M. in the Conference Room of the Municipal
Complex, 1400 Live Oak Road with the following members present: Mayor Robert
C. Bueker, Richard L. Howe, Gail Hyatt, Walter F. Schneider, Earl W. Sawyer,
and Earl Johnson.

#1 Request by .Mr.Odo Riedel to rezone Lot 2, Block 2 of the Biegert
Subdivision from R-2 to R-4.
After discussion between the two groups with Mr. Riedel, concerning the
rezoning of this lot for apartments, the City Manager said that staff re-
commends setting a public hearing for July 12th for this request.
Both the City Council members and P&Z Commission agreed to the Public Hearing
date of July 12, 1978 at 7:00 P.M.
#2 Request by Mr. Coy Simmons to rezone 10 acres of land located east
of Unit 2 in Oak Forest Subdivision from R-l to R-4.
The City Manager said that staff recommends setting a public hearing for this
request for July 12th, 1978.
Council and P&Z then discussed with Mr. Simmons what plans he has for this
10 acres. Mr. Simmons said he had no particular plans at this time and did
not plan to start on this portion for about 1 to l~ years. The discussion
included the potential traffic problems an apartment complex would create
and the fact that it does not follow the master plan.
Mr. Sawyer moved to turn down the request by Mr. Simmons in accordance with
subparagraphs 2, b. c, and d of Section 12.2.2 of Article III of the Zoning
Ordinance. Mr. Schneider seconded the motion which carried with the following
vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Howe, Hyatt, Schneider, Sawyer and Johnson
NAYS: None

#3 Consideration of setting a date for a Public Hearing on amending
Section 10.5 of the Zoning Ordinance.
After brief discussion, both the City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission
agreed to set the date for the public hearing for July 12, 1978, at amend
Section 10.5 of the Zoning Ordinance.
#4 Consideration of setting date for a public hearing for the rezoning
of five tracts of land from Temporary Pre-development to permanent
zoning.

Joe Garza, Administrative Assistant, explained the five tracts of land
as :
A. the four lots in front of Mobile Villa; specificially .284 acres,
.670 acres, .663 acres and .352 acres out of a 29.075 acre tract out of
T. Herrera Survey #68. Staff recommended rezoning to Neighborhood
Services.
B. Monotech Corp, which contains 50 acres was recommended to be rezoned
M-l Industrial District.
C. a 100 ft. by 150 ft. area of land on which El Rancho Lounge is situated
recommended to be changed to General Business District.
D. a 2 acre tract out of the T. Herrera Survey Abstract 153, being the
Jahn Welding Shop to M-l Industrial District.
E. A .91 acre tract out of the Frank P. Fey tract located within the T.
Herrera Survey Abstract #68 to G.B. General Business.
Both the Council and P&Z agreed to set a public hearing on the above 5
tracts of land for July 12th, 1978 at 7:00 P.M.
The Joint Meeting was declared adjourned at 8:39 P.M. by P&Z Chairman
Aguilar.
#5 General Discussion: Council met in Workshop Session, reconven-
ing at approximately 8:45 P.M.
#6 ADJOURNMENT: On a motion duly made, seconded and unanimously
carried the meeting adjourned at 10:00 P.M.
