06-07-21 LAB MinutesSCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING DATE: 6/7/2021 Members Present: Ken Bauer, Chris Bryan, Carol Cyr, Patti Dilworth, Dawn Figueras, Patti Paulson, Margaret Riley, Letticia Sever, Ruth Tienor, Melissa Uhlhorn, Joanne Ward, Laura Wilson City Administration Members: None Visitors: None CALL TO ORDER: Patti Paulson called the meeting to order at 6:31. HEARING OF RESIDENTS: None REGULAR AGENDA: 1. Minutes: Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the minutes of the 5/3/2021 meeting. - Ruth Tienor moved to accept the 5/3/2021 minutes as presented. - Patti Dilworth seconded the motion. - Motion carried. The 5/3/2021 minutes were accepted as presented. 2. Treasurer’s Report: Consideration and/or action regarding the approval of the April 2021 Treasurer’s Report. - Joanne Ward moved to accept the 4/2021 Treasurer’s Report as presented. - Margaret Riley seconded the motion. - The motion carried. The 4/2021 Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented. 3. Librarian’s Report: Librarian will report on the following items. Library usage and statistics - Circulation continues to increase - Wi-Fi usage was way up for April. - Visitors to the library run about 400-500/day right now. Summers in the past saw about 1200/day. It is expected that visitor numbers will increase once story time returns, most likely to be in the fall. Library operation and other items of interest - Most programs will continue to be virtual through the rest of the summer. The ESL group did have both in person programs and drive by programs. It is the current plan that this will continue through the summer. - The library is almost back to pre-Covid normal except for programs and social distancing via furniture placement and number of computers available. - The library will return to 7 days a week with normal hours on 6/19. - One of the meeting rooms will be open to the public beginning 6/19. - Curbside delivery will continue through the summer. Demand for curbside is continuing though at a smaller level. - April will deal with requests for onsite programming on a case by case basis. This will allow for some programs in controlled situations. 4. Bookstore Report: Committee reported on the following items: General Operation: - The bookstore is now open 3 days a week and this seems to be going well. - Joanne will work with volunteers, etc. to see about adding additional days. Additional volunteers will be needed. - The 3 day a week schedule will continue with Joanne continuing to evaluate the situation. - The next Big Book Sale will be 8/20 and 8/21 with set up on 8/19. Set up will start at 4 pm in hopes of getting some school children volunteers. The flow of book sale customers will be set up later. The number of customers in the room may be limited. The bookstore will be open 8/20 and 8/21 during the book sale. - There is a sturdy neighborhood mini-library available for anyone interested. - Bookstore protocols are to have hand sanitizer available and leave mask usage up to volunteers and customers. - Items will be available for sale in the library for the time being. - Bookstore operations will continue to be flexible. 5. Committee of Committees Advisory Board Update (if CCAB has met): None DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION: None ANNOUNCEMENTS: 6. Items by the Library Board Members: Briefing and discussion on the following items. Correspondence received by the Secretary: None Other announcements by Library Board Members: - Fall and winter city events should include Trunk or Treat and Holidazzle. - Schertz City Council meeting on the move at Corbett on 6/15 at 6 pm. Call for items to be included on the next agenda: - Book Sale plans and sign up. ADJOURNMENT: - Ruth Tienor moved to adjourn the meeting. - Carol Cyr seconded the motion. - The motion carried. - The meeting was adjourned at 7:14. - The next meeting will be 8/2/2021.
