September 20, 2023 Animal Advisory Committee MinutesSCHERTZ ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2023, 6:OOPM The Schertz Animal Care Advisory Committee of the City of Schertz, Texas held a regular meeting on September 20, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the Schertz Animal Shelter, 800 Community Circle, Schertz, Texas. The following were present: Committee Members Present: Jim Lowery, Chief of Police, Chair Allison Heyward, City Council Representative Megan Lagunas, Shelter Manager Dr. Brooke Knowlton, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Jacki Marbach, Secretary Members not present: Michele Helgren, Under Savannah's Wings Lisa Connolly, Homes for Pets Staff Present: Scott LaCour, Lt., Professional Standards Daniel Roman, Assistant Chief of Police CALL TO ORDER AT: 5:55 P.M. pm by Chief Lowery ROLL CALL: See Committee Members Present HEARING OF RESIDENTS: No residents present 1. Minutes: Consideration and/action regarding the approval of the minutes of the regular meeting of May 17, 2023. A motion was made by Allison Heyward to approve the minutes of May 17, 2023. Dr. Knowlton seconded it. Motion passed. The vote was unanimous. 2. General Shelter Update: Shelter Manager Lagunas a. Staffing • Animal Services Officer-1 vacancy • Animal Services Technician-1 vacancy f. Upcoming Events • Balloon Fest 9/29-9/30/2023 • National Night Out 10/3/2023 g. Resources • The shelter continues to use rescue partners such as non-profit rescue groups and local pet stores, to help find replacement for animals. San Antonio Humane Society (taking 8-1 0/month), Lucky Lab Rescue, Homes for Pets, and Perfect Treasures (cat rescue for ill kittens), are some of our biggest rescue partners. h. Customer Interaction • Wildlife in yards • Animal welfare • Stray cats • Puppies • Dog bites/attacks • Dogs at large • Barking dogs • Kittens -currently 10 neonatal kittens i. Facility Projects • Cat trailer -deemed not cost worthy by facilities • Vet room (surgeries/procedures)-donations, out cost to shelter budget • Lighting throughout shelter -replacing lighting/adding lighting for upcoming vet room surgeries/procedures • Incomplete projects -painting of inside of shelter 3.
