November 9, 2022 Schertz Animal Care Advisory Committee MinutesSCHERTZ ANIMAL CARE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 9, 2022, 6:OOPM The Schertz Animal Care Advisory Committee of the City of Schertz, Texas held a regular meeting on November 9, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at the Schertz Animal Shelter, 800 Community Circle, Schertz, Texas. The following were present: Committee Members Present: Jim Lowery, Chief of Police, Chair Lisa Connolly, Homes for Pets David Scagliola, City Council Representative Megan Lagunas, Shelter Manager Dr. Brooke Knowlton, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Jacki Marbach, Secretary Members not present: Michele Helgren, Under Savannah's Wings Allison Heyward, City Council Representative Staff Present: Scott LaCour, Lt., Professional Standards Dr. Mark Browne, City Manager CALL TO ORDER AT: 6:01 pm by Chief Lowery ROLL CALL: See Committee Members Present HEARING OF RESIDENTS: No residents present 1. Minutes: Consideration and/action regarding the approval of the minutes of the regular meeting of July 13, 2022. A motion was made by Megan Lagunas to approve the minutes of July 13, 2022. Lisa Connolly seconded it. Motion passed. The vote was unanimous. 2. General Shelter Update: Shelter Manager Lagunas a. Intake trend FY 20/21: The shelter took in 1070 animals. FY 2021/2022: The shelter took in 1125 animals. 1) Call for service trend: FY 20/21: The shelter took 2029 CFS. FY 21/22: The shelter took 2206 CFS. 2) EOY Euthanasia trend FY 20/21: The shelter euthanized 93 animals, with a 91 % live release. Population counts on November 9, 2022, is 75 • 24-Dogs • 51-Cats • 0-Wildlife • 26 of which are adoptable. c. FY 22/23 Occupancy -Animal Services Intake- 118 d. Animal disposition 22/23 • 28-RTO • 35-Adoptions • 19-Transfers • 10-Wildlife release • 9-Euthanasia e. Calls for service FY 22/23 • 223 f. Staffing • Currently fully staffed. g. Upcoming Events • Girl Scout Tour 11/22/22 (earn pets badges) • Holidazzle 12/3/22 h. Customer Interactions • DSHS Annual Inspection -November 3, 2022, the DSHS performed annual inspection. Zero recommendations and zero write ups. We passed with a perfect score. • Community concerns, Wildlife in yard, deer stuck in fences, animal welfare, stray cats, dog bites, dogs at large, barking dogs, puppies, and kittens. i. Rescue Partners • The shelter continues to use rescue partners such as non-profit rescue groups and local pet stores, to help find replacements for animals. ARF- Texas, Homes for Pets and Perfect Treasures, are some of the biggest rescue partners. San Antonio Humane Society blocks off four spots every two week and takes heartworm positive animal as well. j.
