LAB 01-08-2007 SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on January 8, 2007 with the following members present: Ruth Tienor Patti Lovelady Margaret Riley Simone Bailey Laura Wilson Neota Brady John Correu Mary McAllister Melissa Uhlhorn Gail Douglas Michael Carpenter Guests: Mr. Brockman Mr. Scagliola Minutes: Minutes for the December meeting were presented. Patti moved to accept the minutes and Simone seconded. Motion passed. Treasurer's Report: Laura presented the report. In addition to monthly information, she reported Bookstore sales for 2006 totaled $7,086.28. Margaret moved to accept the report and Mary seconded. Motion passed. Citizen Comments: Mr. Brockman asked if outgoing LAB members are recognized by City Council for their service. It was reported that there are plans for past members to be listed on a plaque in the new library. Librarians' Reports: · The stats were as follows: circulation - 19,385 patrons - 12,369 computer usage - 2,112 story time - 125 directional/reference information questions - 725 There were no programs the last 2 weeks of December. Even though stats for the month are down, it was a 6% increase over December 2005. · Work on the hand and footprint quilt has begun. It is looking very nice. · Bookmarks from the contest are on the Web. The Library Web site has a link to access these. · Tammy Maxwell has been hired as a 20 hour clerk. She will do the Tiny Tots program. · Nicki has applied for and received state librarian certification. · Larry Thompson, storyteller, will be at the Winter Reading program this week. · Uncatalogued items can not be counted in the collection. Our library has 54,241 catalogued items. Very few items are not catalogued. Community Services Director's Report: Gail and Melissa are part ofthe interview committee for architectural firms. Final interviews are scheduled for Thursday. Committee Reports: The Bookstore Committee presented a bookstore policy draft. A Miscellaneous Items section will be added. Mary will e-mail copies ofthe draft to LAB members. Additional input/action will be addressed at the next meeting. The committee will also work on bookstore procedures that will be presented in the future. Old Business: . New library building project - ~ Land has been purchased and paperwork should be complete today. ~ Eleven architectural firms submitted qualification information. Four have been selected for final interviews. They are Alamo Architects, J. Mendenhall, Kell Munoz, and RVK. New Business: · Dinosaur World exhibit will be January 15-21 at the Schertz Civic Center. Nicki and Tammy are planning crafts. Volunteers are needed for the ticket booth and concession stand. · Ruth will call to see if bookstore info can be included in the February Schertz Tales. We are in need of children's books. · Plans for the city's 50th year celebration are being made. The library will celebrate its 30th year of operation during this time. Margaret made the motion to adjourn. Neota seconded. Motion carried. The next LAB meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m.
