SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on November 5, 2007 with the following members present:

Minutes: Margaret moved to accept the minutes, and Pattie seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: Simone moved to approve the report, and Mary seconded. Motion
carried. The amount of $1 0,000 was transferred from cash account to the investment account. It
will show in the next report. Bookstore earnings for October were $557.90.

Librarians' Reports:
. Stats were as follows:
circulation - 25,012 patrons - 15,050 computer usage - 2,384 info questions - 787
story time - 639 cards - 312 (new) 345 (renewal) estimated calls received - 808
· The interview/hiring process for the open positions is taking place.
· A workshop entitled "How to Stay Out of Jail - Training for Friends and Boards" will be
on November 16th at the San Antonio Public Library.
· AT&T has accepted a grant proposal ($15,000) for wireless technology and Melissa is
waiting to hear if it will be funded.
· Bookmark winners will be selected at the December meeting.
· A photo contest, "Get Caught Reading", will be held. There are 4 categories: juvenile,
teens, adult, and professional.
. Pizza Taste-Off was a success.
· Schertz Fire Department visited storytime in October.
· Melissa attended a Collection Development meeting.
· An idea for possible fund raiser -- Nicki met a Fredericksburg pastry chef who enjoys
working with libraries.
Community Services Director's Report: none
Council Liaison's Report:
· City budget has been passed.
Committee Reports:
· Bookstore - Should prices on some items in bookstore be changed? It was suggested that
sales by category be tracked for 3 months before any decision is made.
Update on new library building project:
· Bid proposals will be accepted soon. If all goes well, groundbreaking will be in January.
Discussion of Library Board appointments:
· Applications are at city hall.
Scheduling of library float work day:
. Workday will be November 30th.
Discussion on setting up online donation/resale options:
· Nicki's husband has volunteered to help sell vintage books, etc. on e-bay.
Items by Library Board members:
· Simone moved to purchase a cash register for the used bookstore. Margaret seconded.
Motion carried.
Pattie made the motion to adjourn. Laura seconded. Motion carried.
The next LAB meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
