2007R51-Lakewood Acres RESOLUTION NO. 07-R-51 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF LAKEWOOD ACRES AS A PROPOSED PARK SITE BY BEXAR COUNTY WHEREAS, the City of Schertz and Bexar County have identified park and recreational opportunities, park development and park management needs through master park planning guidelines and planning methods that parks are good for the health and welfare of our citizens; and WHEREAS, Bexar County and the City of Schertz has determined that the development of a 175 acre proposed park site on Schaffer Road and Cibolo Creek, Lakewood Acres, currently owned by Bexar County, located within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Schertz would provide such a recreational opportunity for both jurisdictions; and WHEREAS, a joint development of the City of Schertz and Bexar County would be beneficial to residents of the City of Schertz and Bexar County; and WHEREAS, the City of Schertz and Bexar County are desirous in providing park and recreational services to this area. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS SECTION 1. The City of Schertz hereby supports the development of the proposed 175 acre park site in an effort to provide recreational opportunities for the citizens of Schertz and Bexar County. SECTION 2. The City of Schertz shall act in a partnership role with Bexar County to write and manage the submittal of a Texas Parks and Wildlife Grant the cost for the grant application which will be shared equally by both entities. SECTION 3. The City of Schertz will assist in the initiation and development of the proposed park grant in an effort to provide an on-going partnership with Bexar County. SECTION 4. After Bexar County completes the development of said proposed park Bexar County will formally dedicates and transfers ownership of the park to the City of Schertz. SECTION 5. The City of Schertz will budget funds to staff the park, maintain the park and operate the facility as a park site for the City of Schertz and Bexar County residents. 1 SECTION 6. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its final adoption by both the City of Schertz and Bexar County. SECTION 7. Both parties agree to consider an Interlocal Agreement to formalize this understanding.
