MINUTES OF THE MONTHLY MEETING

The March monthly meeting of the Schertz Y Oouth COommissiOon was called tOo order by Emily
FurillOo, President, at 6:53 'p.m., as we were waiting Oon a seventh member tOo join us to cOomplete
Oour qUOorum.

Library Manager Melissa Uhlhorn.
UpOon discussion of Old Business~ Chris moves tOo approve the December 18, 2006 minutes and
DavidsecOonds the motion. A 'Vote is taken and all say aye.
Chris then moves tOo approve the February 16, 2007 minutes and David secOonds. A VOote is taken
and all say aye.
A discussioncOonceming the IOogOo design for the Schertz Y Oouth Commission is POostpOoned until a
later date.
Due tOo time COonstraints, the "Teen JobF,l;lir" is suggested to be postponed until next year. Chris
moves tOo POostpone the "Teen Job Fair," and Justin secOonds. A vote is taken and all say aye.
A discussiOon is held fOof the date of next year's "Teen JOob Fair." Chris suggests the fair be held
in February 2008. Mrs. ,Matlock suggests the fair be held in 'March 2008, and theCOommission
agrees that March 29, 20t8would be an apprOopriate date. Chris moves to set the date Oofthe
"Teen Job Fair" fOor March 29,2008 and Megan secOonds. A vOoteis taken and all say aye.
A discussiOon,of fund.tmsing is then held. Ideas fOor fundraising. included: a senior prom, a
cOoncessionstand for:the Air Force Band COoncert on July 1,2007, a "Deal..or No Deal" game
show, a sports-related cOompetiUOon, anda cOoncession stand at the Police DepartmentlFire
DepartmentJEMS Department SOoftball tournament.
. COoutinuing on the subject of a budget, Mrs. MatlOock establishes a gOoal of raising at least $1,500
thrOough fundraising.
Chris mOotiOons to move a discussion Oofthe approval Oof the 2007/2008 minutes to Oour next
meeting Oon Apri116, 2007. Megan seconds. A vOoteis taken and all say aye.
Emily then leads a discussiOon about helping the set-up Oofthe recreation center. John asks about
having a meeting room Hi the new recreation center. After much discussion, the idea is
dismissed due to establishment difficulties and budgetcOonstraints.
Emily then talks about other Oobjectivesthe:Schertz Y Oouth Commission should have. 'I1aegoals
she mentioned were: getting theS~hertz Youth .COoinmission name publicized,. ~of new
activities for the yooth to getinvOoiv~ in within the community, and continuing tobe involved in
fundraising and vOolunteer work.
Mrs. Stohr then discusses the purpose of the Attorney General's Training for Open Meeting$ Act.

mOotions to set the, date Ooi Apri123, 2007 for a special meeting, and fOor the training videOo to be
viewed at this,meeting. Justin seconds. A vote istaken and allsay aye.
Chris then motions for those Who are notable tOo attend t:.Q.e special meeting to watch the training
videOoat home to gafutl1,ecertificate. This would have tOo be completed by the meeting OofMay
14,2007. Megan secOonds. A vote is taken and all say aye.
Next, Justin motions to postpene the suggesting of a name for the new library to Oour next
meeting Oof April 16, 2007 : Megan seconds. A VOote is taken and all say aye.
Mrs. Uhlhorn leads a discussion abOout the meeting fOor the. architecture, styles, 'cle. for the new
library. The library .wams aU age groups to be represented at this mee~ SQ :Mirs~ Ul:dhom
invites us to the ~h 21, 2007 COommunity Forum. She continues to discuss plaas for the new
library inc'ludingset::'up, budget, size, etc.
A discussion fOof the rewaalliarewell party is held, and the idea is having dinner Oon June 8, 2001,
at the Rainforest Cafe~ and.ihengoing paintballing OonJune 9, 2007.,Chrismovesm set these
dates, times,andp~es, and DaVid seconds. A vote is takenand.a1i say aye~ TheBEmily .
suggests inviting the' City Council to join us fOor bOoth activities. She agrees to make invitations
fOor the reward party and wiD include the City COouncil.
Michael CarpeBter is invited to the rest Oof our 2007 Schertz Youth COommission meetings.
