SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on April 2, 2007 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the March meeting were presented. Carl moved to approve and Laura
seconded. Motion passed.
Treasurer's Report: Laura presented the February report. She also reported that March
Bookstore sales were $582.39. Margaret moved to approve and Mary seconded. Motion passed.
Citizen Comments: none
Librarians' Reports:
· Stats were as follows:
circulation - 24,103 patrons - 16,082 computer usage - 2,099 cards issued -- 296
story time - 393 information questions - 788
· Tom Enright has been hired as a shelving clerk.
· A new service on the library web site is eleven on-line book clubs. (e.g. Dear
Reader.com)
· An Abitibi paper retriever has been placed in the library parking lot.
· TLA will be held in San Antonio April 11-14. Melissa, Nicki and Gail will be attending.
· AALS March 23rd Spring meeting was attended by Margaret, Gail, and Melissa. Budget
was discussed and by-laws were voted upon. Evan Smith, editor of Texas Monthly, was
the speaker.
· Nicki has been contacting businesses for reading club donations. Some items received
are tickets to Magic Theater, Aztec Theater, and Schlitterbahn, a gold coin, and a savings
bond.
· Nicki, Gail, and Jessica will be discussing the teen volunteer program at Samuel Clemens
High School.
Community Services Director's Report: none
Council Liaison's Report: Each of the open council seats has only 1 candidate filing for the
position.
Committee Reports: none
Old Business:
· New library building project-
~ The architects are working on preliminary drawings.
~ A community forum was held on March 21.
~ Concerns include expansion area, green space, traffic flow, growth of SC High
School and 2 projects on one property.
New Business: none
Simone made the motion to adjourn. Patti seconded. Motion carried.
The next LAB meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 7, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.
