1984R02- ALTERNATIVE HIGHWAY ROUTES RESOLUTION NO. rlf - Ie -~ A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO CONDUCT A FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR ALTERNA- TIVE HIGHWAY ROUTES BETWEEN AUSTIN AND SAN ANTONIO. WHEREAS, the area of Texas stretching from the Austin metro- politan area to the San Antonio metropolitan area has undergone tremendous growth in recent years; and WHEREAS, this area is forecast to continue to grow both by natural increases and immigration; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to address the transportation infra- structure to ensure that the region will be able to accommodate current demands and future growth; and WHEREAS, Interstate Highway 35 is the only direct highway link now between Austin and San Antonio; and WHEREAS, it is important that alternative routes be studied so that the transportation system supports the growth which will accur; and WHEREAS, district officials of the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation predict that Interstate Highway 35 will be opera- ting beyond designed capacity limits in the near future; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Schertz, County of Guadalupe, requests the State Highway and PubliC Transportation Commission to conduct a feasibility study for alternative highway routes between Austin and San Antonio, including expansion of the current Interstate 35. SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the State Highway and Public Transportation Commission ATTEST: y of Schertz
