A RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE TURNPIKE AUTHORITY TO FUND A PRELIMINARY
FEASIBILITY REPORT FOR A REVENUE-BASED TOLL ROAD FACILITY
BETWEEN AUSTIN AND SAN ANTONIO.
WHEREAS, the area of Texas stretching from the Austin metro-
politan area to the San Antonio metropolitan area has undergone tremendous
growth in recent years; and
WHEREAS, this area is forecast to continue to grow both by
natural increases and immigration; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to address the transportation infr-
structure to ensure that the region will be able to accomodate current
demands and future growth; and
WHEREAS, Interstate Highway 35 is the only direct highway link
now between Austin and San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, it is important that alternative routes be studied
so that the transportation system supports the growth which will occur;
and
WHEREAS, district officials of the Texas Department of Highways
and Public Transportation predict that Interstate Highway 35 will be oper-
ating beyond designed capacity limits in the near future; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Schertz, County of Guada-
lupe, requests the Texas Turnpike Authority to fund a prelimi-
nary feasibility report for a revenue-based toll raod facility
between Austin and San Antonio.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Texas
Turnpike Authority.
