A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS, DESIGNATING FARM TO MARKET ROAD 3009 AS JACK HAYS BOULEVARD WHEREAS, John Coffee Hays more eminently known as "Jack Hays" was one of the keymen who maintained the Republic of Texas and then helped make it into a state. Jack Hays was a Texas Ranger, soldier, surveyor, explorer and officer during the Mexican War. Jack Hays was the most spectacular and successful indian fighter in Texas history. He was married in the City of Seguin at the Magnolia Hotel on April 29, 1847. Special guests from Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Washington on the Brazos attended. For more than ten years he was associated with settlements in Guadalupe County. Although a great military man and indian fighter, his reputation in civilian life as a founder and developer of cities was as respected; and WHEREAS, this representation of the wholesome, successful leader of all that is desired; and It is proper to honor such a settled Guadalupe County and person that the City of has exemplified Schertz; NOW of men is typical WHEREAS, the pioneers that THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SCHERTZ, TEXAS: THAT Farm to Market Road 3009 from IH 35 to FM 78 be designated as "Jack Hays Boulevard" and be designated as a major entrance way to the City of Schertz. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: THAT a request for proper signage be placed along IH 35 and FM 78 indicating Jack Hays Boulevard as a City of Schertz exit and designating FM 3009 as Jack Hays Boulevard.
