he had gone back and pulled out information on some of the good
things that has happened in the City. In 1980, we earned $12,512
in interest and in 1984, we earned $186,177. In 1980 the sewer
income was 34% of the budget and expense was 39%, while in 1984,
the income was 33% with the expense being only 25%. In 1980-81
Ad Valorum taxes supported 43% of the general fund budget and in
1984-85 only 37%. In 1979 we had no Capital Improvement Funds
and in 1985 we have $350,000. Since 1979 the City has purchased
two new firetrucks costing approximately $210,000 that cost the
City only $35,000. We have a new library building and furniture
that cost approximately $130,000 but the cost to the City was
zero. We have a new animal shelter facility with the cost of
land and facilities being only $16,00Q. SAFES is now self-
sufficient. We have a new sewer line from Maske Road to North
side of I35 which cost $1,000,000 but the cost to the City was
$20,000 cash and $18,000 debt write off. We purchased a new
water storage site on IH 35 - the land value on some plats is
$16-20,000 per acre but we paid $9,000 for one acre. We have
incorporated the Schaefer Road Water system into the City system.
The reconstruction of East Live Oak Road will cost $165,000 but
the cost to the City will be less than $10,000. So you see we
are doing good.
