F. Mr. Greenwald said he had asked both Tom Weaver and Mr.
Sanders to come to the next workshop prior to the public hearing
on the 21st.
ill ITEMS BY MAYOR: A. Mr. Baldwin said he could not get
the recreational hall on the 11th for Senior Citizen Day so had
to change it to the 18th. He also has changed the format for the
opening ceremonies - they will be held at the RecHall.
B. Really need to get the people' to clean 'that lot on Main
Street, owned by Hild Marine.
C. There is a sign problem on I35. In Cibolo's ETJ there are
five huge signs going up.

REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
MAY 7, 1985
The Schertz City Council convened in Regular Session, Tuesday,
May 7, 1985, at 7:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers, .1400 Live Oak
Road with the following members present: Mayor Earl W. Sawyer,
presiding; Charles B. Sharpe, Hal Baldwin, Adolph Aguilar and Ken
Greenwald. Absent: Ray Stanhope. Staff present were City
Manager Jimmy G. Gilmore and City Secretary JuneG. Krause.
Before starting the regular meeting, there were several
presentations to be made:
Mayor Sawyer presented a proclamation to Police Chief James W.
Keith, declaring the week of May 12 - 18 as nPoliceWeekn.
The Schertz Business Club presented Custodian Mike DeLeon with
the Employee of the Quarter award and plaque. Mike has been with
the City for five years and is a very dedicated and loyal
employee.

certificates to Police Chief James W. Keith, Fire Chief. Ed Melton
and EMS Director Tom Funk.

- #1 APPROVAL OF MINUTES: fir. Greenwald moved to approve the

seconded the. motion, which carried with the following vote:'

ABSTAINING: Mr. Baldwin as he was not present at the

.2 HEARING OF RESIDENTS: Mr. Wayne Walters, president of
the Schertz Business Club,' along with members Anll Richard and
Marilyn Keller, presented a check for $1200 to Mr. Clifton Crook,
president of the Schertz Volunteer Fire Department. This money
is to be used to help defray expenses for building the bar-b-que
building at the park pavilion.
Mr. Ray Arizpe, president of the Greater Randolph Area Trail
Riders Association, Inc. spoke with Council regarding their chili
cook-off to be held in the park on June 8, 1985. He was asking
permission to hold carnival activities, have either live
entertainment or disk jockey, food, soda, beer and vendor's
booths. Council was in agreement with his plans. Mr. . Gilmore D
said he had talked with Mr. Arizpe.wbo, had ,in. turn made plans
with the Chief and will be getting with Mr. Graham later.
i3 ORDINANCE: Mayor Sawyer introduced an ordinance and
read the caption as follows:

amending the Code of Ordinances by revising Chapter 7 on Fire
Chief and Fire marshal and their duties. Mr. Greenwald seconded

ordinance amending' the Southern Standard Building Code by
eliminating wood shingles and revising Section 1104.5 (b) . Mr.

Mr. Sharpe moved to approve' the first reading of an ordinance
amending the Zoning Ordinance by adding a Jack Hays Boulevard (FM
3009) overlay district. Mr. Aguilar seconded the motion, which

C. Have still not been able to get an answer to calls made to
the number in,the paper advertising a mobile home lot in back of

D. State Highway Department has done a check on FM 78 and has

five different i speed limits 'and this will reduce it to three
within our city limits. This ha$, a,l;ready been. p,r,e.$ented to the

E. One of our volunteer firemen, at his own expense, attended
the 12 week course at A&M to become a full-fledged fire fighter.
On top of his paying for it, he was top traine~ in the class.
Chief Melton has assured me that he will utilize all this
training.
F. Mr. Sharpe, Chief Melton and I viewed the hotel under
construction on I 281 that is identical to the one they will be
starting on I 35. It is a very nice looking hotel.

Mr. Sharpe said the hotel they visited looked like it would be a first
class one. It will have an inner atrium, and all rooms will be entered
-through,the lobby, cutting down on, pol ice problems. A very nice

Mr. Sharpe said that at the last workshop we had Tom Weaver from CCMA
discuss options about getting ,sewer along I 35' area. We need to get
with GUADCO #1 and #2 and get them conmi.tteda!1dthen >work 'out the

#10 ITEMS BY MAYOR: Mayor Sawyer said he has been invited to speak
to a lot of kids at the Elementary S,ch()Ql on Wednesday.

The Mayor said Mr. Gilmore is working on sewer lines for I 35 area but

He said he has received a lot of letters complimenting the police depart-
