LAB 01-09-2006 .. . SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on January 9, 2006 with the following members present: Ruth Tienor Margaret Riley Simone Bailey Mary McAllister Pattie Lovelady Melissa Uhlhorn Barbara Ricks Lisa Connolly Gail Douglas Guest: Ray Mueller Minutes: Minutes for the December meeting were presented. Margaret made the motion to accept the minutes. Mary seconded the motion. The motion carried. Treasurer's Report: An amended report for October was presented which showed the correct sales tax. The November report was also presented. Margaret made the motion to accept the reports. Mary seconded. The motion carried. Citizens to be Heard: None Librarians' Reports: . . The stats for December were as follows: 18,351 in circulation; 12,236 patrons; 171 in story time attendance; and 2,088 for computer usage. The story time attendance was down because it was not held the last two weeks of December. . The Winter Reading Club has started and will include several interesting events for children. The club is following a CSI theme and will last for six weeks. Nicki has scheduled a program by the F .B.I., fingerprinting by the Schertz Police Dept., and other mystery/crime events. There has been a good response and interest. A live Clue game is scheduled in February for the conclusion of the reading program. . Melissa conducted interviews for the new circulation clerk position. The job was offered to Sara Molina. She will begin after final city approval. . Melissa and Nicki will attend the A.L.A. Mid-Winter Conference exhibit and trade show which will be held Jan. 19-25. . Surveys will be sent to the public on a different data reporting format. The results will be then sent to A.L.S. who has requested new reporting features. . Gail informed the LAB that the $1,000,000 check donated by Eric White had to be made out to the City of Schertz because we have no record of a 501-C form. The form is needed for fundraising in order for money to be deposited in the LAB account. The donation was designated for the Schertz Public Library. . A strategic planning session will be held on January 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the conference room at city hall. Gail and Melissa will present details and information on what has been done so far toward building a new library. . . . Committee Reports: On behalf of the Nominating Committee, Simone made the motion to accept the new slate of officers. Lisa seconded. The motion carried. A bench has been ordered in honor of the Hughes Family. . There is still an opening on the LAB. . The LAB reviewed and made changes to the Unattended Children Policy. Melissa will rewrite and revise the policy and will bring it to the February meeting. New Business: None Pattie made the motion to adjourn. Simone seconded. The motion carried.
