LAB 03-07-2005 - . SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on March 7, 2005 with the following members present: Ruth Tienor Julie Parr Simone Bailey Melissa Uhlhorn Barbara Ricks Margaret Riley Lisa Connolly Gail Douglas Pattie Lovelady Leah Tamez Carl Douglas Nicki Stohr Minutes: Minutes for the February meeting were presented. Julie made the motion to accept the minutes. Pattie seconded. The motion carried. Treasurer's Report: The January report was presented. Julie stated that the $5,000 deposited in the investment account will show on the March report. Margaret made the motion to accept the report. Simone seconded. The motion carried. . . ~~b . . . . . . . . . . . . . Librarians' Report: The February circulation number was 19,779. Last year's number was 18,721. The total number of patrons in February was 12,686, with 250 attending story time. Volunteer hours total~41 ~, and restitution hours totaled 15 %. Melissa stated that th. ALS ring meeting will be on March 18. Money from the Lone .. rant has been used to purchase chairs. Shelves should arrive within the next two weeks. Melissa will find out if the Eagle Scout who offered to paint the juvenile nonfiction area is still interested in the project. Gail has the name of a scout who may help re-stain names on pickets in the playscape. Melissa is working on the annual report which is due by the end of the month. Plans for three summer movies are being made. The city will pay for one movie, which cost $500 each. Melissa asked the LAB for up to $1,000 to pay for two movies. Schertz Bank might fund one. Margaret made the motion to give up to $1,000. Julie seconded the motion. The motion carried. Nicki reported on various successful programs in the children's area, as well as plans for the summer reading program. The theme is "Go wild- Read." Three performers have been set up so far and she is waiting to hear from three more. Letters were sent out to various businesses asking for donations for the summer reading club. Several donations have been received, including money from Alex Hartman Insurance Co. to purchase plastic bags. Nicki asked the LAB for $1,500 to go toward reading program costs. Margaret made the motion to give up to $1,500. Julie seconded. The motion carried. Gail reported that the electrical work and footings have been completed for the parking lot lights. Poles should be in soon. Pavers will also be laid soon. Three Mountain Laurels have been planted. Work will soon begin on the new baseball fields. Gail will turn in the form to participate in the July 4th parade. . Committee Reports: None -. . Old Business: None New Business: . The Library Customer Policy is up for review. Melissa is working on this, and gave the LAB copies to go over. The LAB will vote on the policy next month. . Bags will be ordered to be sold at the bookstore. . Agendas need to be posted. . Needs and wants for a new library will be discussed next month. . Henry Cuellar has set up an office for the second Tuesday of each month. He will be available for questions and/or concerns.
