SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on August 1,2005 with the following members present: Ruth Tienor Barbara Ricks Julie Parr Margaret Riley Pattie Lovelady Leah Tamez Melissa Uhlhorn Gail Douglas Carl Douglas Visitors: Jerry Mendenhall and Tom Ellis Ruth made the motion to change procedures to allow Jerry Mendenhall and Tom Ellis fromj. Mendenhall Architects to present their first draft of the new library. Julie seconded the motion. The motion passed. The LAB reviewed the architect's rendering of the new library and was asked to make any revisions they felt necessary. The drawing will then be presented to the city council. The proposed building will consist of35,000 sq. ft. with 30,000 sq. ft. of usable space, and need approximately 5 acres of land. The LAB will e-mail any comments or suggestions to either Gail or Melissa. Margaret made the motion to proceed with the first draft with recommendations to city council. The rendering will be placed on the Aug. 24 agenda. Julie seconded the motion. The motion carried. . Minutes: Minutes for the June meeting were presented. Margaret made the motion to accept the minutes as corrected. Julie seconded the motion. The motion carried. Treasurer's Report: The May and June reports were presented. Pattie made the motion to accept the reports. Margaret seconded. The motion carried. Librarians' Reports: · The June circulation number was 29,464, the highest number in the library's history. The July circulation was 26,089. · Computer usage stats for June were 2,016, and 2,173 for July. · 18,933 patrons visited the library in June, and 16,498 visited in July. · The Summer Reading Program is officially over and was very successful. Nicki planned for 900 children and had 902 sign up. Approximately 90 more children wanted to sign up. · Donations to the Summer Reading Program totaled approximately $12,274.00 in value. · Twelve members of the 'Tweens Program attended a Monopoly Tournament. · Attendance for the summer movies has been very good. Word of Life Church has provided sno-cones. The next movie, Sponge Bob Square Pants, will be shown on Aug. 20. \ 1\ · Nicki is interested~new programs, such as a winter program or an afternoon program. Melissa \uggested that if a new program is added, a once a month program might be best. . . . . ) , . It is required that all libraries have a system management 5 year plan. Work sessions will be held on Aug. 16 in Converse. Melissa has ideas for a long range plan and will work further on this.
