LAB 11-07-2005 ,.. , . SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on November 7, 2005 with the following members present: Ruth Tienor Barbara Ricks Julie Parr Gail Douglas Mary McAllister Pattie Lovelady Leah Tamez Melissa Uhlhorn Margaret Riley Lisa Connolly Minutes: Minutes for the September meeting were presented. Mary made the motion to accept the minutes. Julie seconded the motion. The motion carried. Treasurer's Report: Reports for August and September were presented. Margaret made the motion to accept the reports. Mary seconded. The motion carried. . Librarians' Reports: . The library continues to be very busy. The October stats were up 10%, with 22,813 in circulation. September had 22,669 in circulation. There has been an 8% increase in circulation for the fiscal year. . Nicki is actively involved in several programs which are doing well. An infant program, an afternoon program, and a winter reading program have had good attendance. . The library participated in the "Trunk or Treat" activity on Oct. 31 which went well. · The feasibility study was presented to the council on Nov. 1. A workshop will be held on Nov. 9 to discuss options for funding for the new library. . In September, a problem with the AC caused flooding in the juvenile section. Some books were lost, but have been replaced. . A shelving clerk and an additional circulation clerk have been added to the library staff. · The library is eligible for four more Gates computers. The maintenance budget may allow for 3 or 4 more. Also, maintenance on existing computers needs to be done. · Melissa and Margaret attended several workshops and meetings during the month of October. · Gail is studying funding options in order to get the new library project underway. · Melissa is working on the annual report which is due March 31, 2006. · Vision and Mission statements are also being worked on. A suggestion for a vision statement was, "The corridor to the future for all ages through wisdom, knowledge, and dreams. Committee Reports: None Old Business: Melissa will rewrite the Wireless Internet Policy and submit it to the city attorney for review. It will be presented to the LAB for approval at a later date. . ~ . . . ) New Business: . It was suggested that the LAB purchase something in memory of Spurgeon, Stephen, and Barbara Hughes in honor of June Hughes. Perhaps a sculpture or large planter can be placed in front of the library. · The LAB discussed the Festival of Angels Parade which will occur on Dec.2. Work on the float will be done on Dec. 2 starting at 10:00 a.m. Margaret made the motion to adjourn. Leah seconded. The motion carried.
