PUBLJCLlBRARY _ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on May 4, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. with the following members present:

Minutes for the April meeting were presented. Margaret made the motion to
accept the minutes. Mary seconded the motion. The motion carried.
No treasurer's report was available because Julie was out of town.
Librarian's Report:
-The two part-time employees, Carmelita Wages and Melissa Stackhouse, are
working out well.
-Only one person, Violet Jasper, has applied for the Children's Librarian position.
Gail will ask her if she would be interested in part-time until October. Hopefully,
clerks will be upgraded to a higher pay scale. All city employees are being
evaluated and surveyed.
-The wires for the computers have been installed and a June 1 st operation date is
still anticipated.
-Gail is considering following the Seguin Library policy for our Internet use.
-A study carrel may be used to provide privacy and to protect children from
seeing the computer screen. An ISDN (digital) line will be directly connected to 4
or 5 computers with unlimited use.
-"Honoring the Military" is the theme for the Fourth of July Parade. Gail
suggested using the hat frame from last year's float to create a cake and use
lawn torches as candles. Hats from the different branches of the military can
also be displayed. Further plans will be made at the June meeting.
-Any decisions about bricking the library will be postponed until bids are received
by the city.
The motion to adjourn was made by Ruth. Margaret seconded the motion, which
passed.
The next LAB meeting will be on June 1,1998, at 7:00 p.m.
