LAB 11-02-1998
SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on November 2, 1998, with the following members present:
Juan Thorn
Ruth Tienor
Mary McAllister
Barbara Ricks
Margaret Riley
Gail Douglas
The minutes for the October 5 meeting were presented. Ruth made the motion
to accept the minutes, with a second by Margaret. The motion carried,
No Treasurer's Report was available at this time.
Librarian's Report:
-Gail reported that she and Sandy attended training sessions in Austin and San
Antonio.
- The library was used as a shelter for flood victims during the weekend of the
October flood. This was necessary because all streets leading to the Community
Center were impassable.
-An estimated $522.00 of library materials was lost by patrons in the flood. This
amount will probably be written off and reported to F.E.M.A., even though Gail
doubts the library will receive any money.
-Three library clerks (Charlotte, Lisa, and Carmel ita) were affected by the flood.

timers so they could take time off.
-Gail was unable to contact the architect to invite him to the LAB meeting. She
will try to set up a time in January.
-In lieu of a meeting in December, a celebration of workers will be held. All
library volunteers, staff, and board members are to bring a vegetable, salad, or
dessert.
-A new board member is still needed to fill John Grosskopfs spot.
Committee Reports:
The Policy Committee will have policy revisions done by the January LAB
meeting.
The slate of officers for 1999 will be as follows:
Chairperson- Margaret Riley Vice-Chairperson- Juan Thorn
Treasurer- Julie Parr Secretary- Barbara Ricks
The motion to adjourn was made by Mary. Ruth seconded the motion. The
motion carried.
No meeting was held in December due to the celebration of workers. The next
LAB meeting will be on January 4, 1999.
