LAB 04-07-1997 SCHERTZ PUBLIC LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on April 7, 1997 at 6:00 p.m. at Corbett Junior High because a majority of its members were serving on the Schertz Capitol Improvements Study Committee. Members present were: Juan Thorn Julie Parr Mary McAllister Barbara Ricks Margaret Riley Barbara Quates Gail Douglas Charles McDonald Kerry Sweatt (guest) The minutes for the March LAB meeting were presented. Julie made the motion to accept the minutes. Mary seconded the motion. The motion passed. Treasurer's Report: No report was available from the city at this time. Julie did report that bookstore deposits for February and March were $215.35 and $327.45. Librarian's Report: - Gail reported that twenty-two war bond posters donated by Mr. Wallace several years ago had been found in the bookstore storeroom. The posters may be worth from $85- $500 each. The posters are in mint condition, and plans are being made to advertise them in national magazines. Meanwhile, the posters will be kept in the vault at city hall. -The entry form for the Fourth of July parade needs to be turned in. The decision was made to submit our entry. -The bookstore continues to do well with sales continuing to increase. -Fines for the month of March totaled $848.00. -There has been a problem with outside county residents renewing their library cards. They have been given a one year grace period, but a couple of mistakes have been made by the library staff renewing a card without collecting the $10.00 fee. If the mistake is made by the staff, then an extension will be given to the out of county patron. Committee Reports: Policy Committee: -Mary handed out copies of the new policies which included recent changes. The LAB members are to review them, and discussion will take place during the May meeting. Bookstore Committee: -The need for some type of recycle program for items disposed of from the bookstore was discussed. The recycle bins from The Express-News are believed to be in partnership with schools only. Mr. Sweatt thinks BFI or Alamo Waste may have some type of program. Gail will call Henry Gutierrez with Alamo Waste to find out if recycle bins are available. A motion to adjourn was made by Mary and seconded by Margaret. The next LAB meeting will be on May 5, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. TREASURER'S REPORT FOR MARCH 1997 CASH ACCOUNT PREVIOUS BALANCE INCOME BOOK STORE DONATIONS CHANGE FROM CASHING CD $ 326.95 $ 42.75 $ .06 $ 369.76 DISBURSEMENTS BRODART-DICTIONARY STAND & TABLE $ 613.00 PRESENT BALANCE (3-31-97) CD CASHED ($6819.00 plus $33.06 Interest) CD PURCHASED TO CASH ACCOUNT $ 5669.47 $+ 369.76 $- 613.00 $ 5426.23 $ 6852.06 $- 6852.00 $ .06
