LAB 06-02-1997 SCHERTZ PUBLIC LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on June 2, 1997 at 7:00 PM with the following members present: Pattie Lovelady Mary McAllister Ruth Tienor Juan Thorn John Grosskopf Barbara Ricks Julie Parr Margaret Riley The minutes for the May LAB were presented. The motion to accept the minutes was made by Margaret and seconded by Ruth. The motion carried. No Treasurer's report was available at this time. No Librarian's Report was given because Gail was out of town. Committee Reports: Policy Committee: -Mary handed out an appendix to the policy concerning The Freedom to Read. Part of this is in the old policy under the Freedom to View Statement. The committee is still working on the appendix, and will go over The Freedom to View statement to include necessary parts in the appendix. -In the section of the policy concerning children, the committee reported that only parents can censor what their children read or view. Parade: Since the next meeting of the LAB will not be until after the Fourth of July, plans for the parade were made at this time. John suggested that the slogan be as follows: YOUR SOURCE FOR THE FREE IN FREEDOM SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY It was decided that LAB members would wear coordinating T-shirts and walk carrying a banner with the slogan. Juan will check on having a banner made. John will call Gail after she returns to ask about the entry form. Ruth made the motion to adjourn with a second by Julie.
