LAB 05-06-1996 SCHERTZ PUBLIC LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met in regular session on May 6, 1996 with the following members present: Ruth Tienor Mary McAllister Julie Parr John Grosskopf Barbara Quates Barbara Ricks Juan Thorn Gail Douglas Pattie Lovelady The minutes for the April meeting were presented. Julie made the motion to accept the minutes and was seconded by Mary. The motion carried. Treasurer's Report -Julie presented amendments to the January and February reports, as well as the reports for March and April. The balance as of April 30, 1996 is $4,038.38. Barbara Q. made the motion to accept the Treasurer's Report. Barbara R. seconded. The motion carried. Librarian's Report --Stats for April 1995 were 6,698. April 1996 stats were 7,918. --The computer print-out gives the breakdown of what is checked out and from which city. They also include the amount of fines collected ($558.00 for April). --The number of videos is not limited at this time, but will need to be done soon. Residency changes need to be presented to city council to be approved before policy changes can be made. -The grandfather clause will remain in effect for one year as long as the library patron is in good standing. --Gail proposed that $2,100.00 be used toward the purchase of a new computer. Only $194.00 will be needed from the LAB due to donations made to the library and available budget money. She feels that this is the time to buy, because county funding may be cut next year. --The Volunteer Appreciation Party was given and was a great success. Committee Reports Policy Committee: Continued making changes to old policies, and will continue to go over sections in August to include further changes. The committee should be ready to present new policy changes in September. Old Business: --Plans for the 4th of July float need to be made. New Business: Mary made the motion that the LAB provide $194.00, or the amount needed, toward the purchase of a new Pentium computer. Pattie seconded the motion which carried. The motion to adjourn was made by John, and Pattie seconded. The motion carried.
