LAB 12-02-1996
SCHERTZ PUBLIC LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on December 2, 1996 for a short business meeting, preceded by a
Christmas potluck supper. The following LAB members were present:

Julie Parr
The minutes for November were presented. Julie made the motion to accept the minutes,
with a second by Pattie. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: The reports for September and October were presented. The
November report was unavailable at this time. The Treasurer's report was accepted with
a motion by Juan and a second by Barbara Ricks.
Librarian's Report: Circulation continues to exceed last year as well as fines being on
the increase. Gail attended the Texas Municipal Library Conference which discussed a
resolution considering the libraries and education aspect On the federal level, libraries
are separated from education, which are now with the arts. The state level did pass a
resolution to have libraries with education. The library will open at 10:00 a.m. and close
at 6:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve and will be closed Christmas Day. The same hours apply
to New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. An inventory is planned for January.
Committee Reports:
Policy Committee: The committee will meet again in January and then discuss changes
in February.
Finance Committee: Nothing to report until city decides on a bond issue.
Building Committee: Once a plan is formulated for a bond, this committee can proceed
with fund-raisers, etc. to obtain money for library improvements. If the library stays at its
present location, then previous discussions on enclosing the entry will also proceed.
Old Business: None
New Business: The nominations for new officers were submitted. Mary made the
motion to accept the nominations, with a second by Barbara Quates. The new officers
for 1997 areas follows:
Chairman---John Grosskopf
Vice Chairman---Juan Thorn
Secretary-Barbara Ricks
Treasurer--Julie Parr
The motion to adjourn was made by Barbara Quates. A second was made by Julie. The
motion carried. The next LAB meeting will be January 6, 1997.
