SCHERTZ PUBLIC LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on November 1,2004 with the following members present:

Minutes: Minutes for the October 2004 meeting were presented. Julie moved to accept
the minutes as corrected. Ruth seconded. The motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: The September report was presented. The cash account balance
was $8,845.61. The investment account balance was $11,528.26. The motion to accept
the report was made by Ruth and seconded by Mary. The motion carried.
Librarians' Report:
· Melissa reported that the October circulation stats were up 11 % with a total of
20,715. The computer usage stats were 2,163. 14,131 people visited the library,
including 267 for story time.
· The money from the $2,500 grant from Sam's has been deposited.
· A book sale will be held in December and will last for about a month. The staff is
weeding out back up copies of books and will include those in good condition in
the sale. Christmas CDs will also be sold.
· Melissa will attend an Alamo Area Library System geographic meeting in New
Braunfels this week. The strategic plan for 2006 and 2007 will be discussed.
· Nicki Stohr plans to have a Teddy Bear Juice Party on November 19 for preschool
children.
· A new concrete pad for bicycles has been poured to help prevent mud from being
tracked into the library.
· Mr. Douglas spoke to Billy Keen about displaying his Santa paintings in the
library. Due to the lack of space, the 31 paintings cannot be displayed
appropriately. Perhaps another location can be found.
· Melissa plans to use part of the $3,712 Lone Star money to finish the desk area
and to purchase task chairs. She also plans to purchase a new table and chairs for
the children's area.
· The Schertz Police asked for information on a patron possibly involved in a traffic
accident. Melissa explained that a subpoena would be necessary for the
information due to the Privacy Act.
· Gail reported that the need for additional lighting in the parking area is a safety
issue and that she is still working on getting prices. She will try to get money to
purchase them as a parks project because they will benefit the playscape as well
as the library. Lights from G.V.B.C. may have to be used until decorative ones
can be purchased.
