SCHERTZ PUBLIC LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES
The LAB met on February 4, 2002 with the following members present:
Barbara Ricks Pia Jarman Julie Parr Ruth Tienor
Norma Head Gail Douglas Mary McAllister
Minutes: Minutes were presented. Julie moved to approve the minutes, and Ruth seconded.
Motion carried.
Treasurer's Report: There was no report available.

Librarian's Report:
· Melissa Uhlhorn has been hired as the Children's Librarian. At the present she is
working 9-5 Tuesday through Saturday.
· A Texas Book Festival Grant has been written. If received, the grant will be used to buy
picture books and EZ readers for the Children's section.
. Gail has been talking to the city about removing a wall in the children's area. This would
allow for a children's librarian's office and storage area.
. Additional shelving is needed for the juvenile section. If all new shelving is purchased,
the old shelving would be moved to the Used Book Store.
. Another grant is being written for computers with video cameras. If received, these
computers with cameras could possibly be located in the study rooms.
. Stats this Sunday were: patrons, 200 and circulation, 270.
. Gail will be applying for an award through the Alamo Library Association.
. The annual report is due soon.
Committee Reports: none
New Business: Ruth moved that approximately $2000 from the cash account be used to
purchase new shelving. Julie seconded. Motion carried.
Old Business: Library Board vacancy will be advertised through the city.
Report from Council Representative:"Norma reported on playscape progress. Randolph
Brooks Credit Union will present a check to the city.
Ruth moved to adjourn the meetin!. Mary seconded. Motion carried.
The next meeting will be March 4 at 7:00 p.m.
