LAB 04-02-2001 e e e SCHERTZ PUBLIC LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on April 2, 2001 with the following members present: Barbara Ricks Pia Jarman Simone Bailey Ruth Tienor Julie Parr Norma Head Gail Douglas Mary McAllister Visitor: Denise Collier Minutes: Minutes were presented. Julie moved to approve the minutes and Ruth seconded the motion. Motion carried. Treasurer's Report: The treasurer's report was unavailable as the end of the month was Friday. Librarian's Report: · The annual report has been completed. It is now done on line. Library usage increased from 120,000 the past year to 123,897 this year. Internet usage was up. · The Gates people provided wonderful training and were impressed with the Open House and community support. They will be training all area librarians. Gail has set up the training room in the fire department for these sessions. · Approximately 50 people attended the Open House. Many positive comments have been received from the community. Thanks to all who helped. · The new roof has been completed. Most ceiling tiles are replaced. · Gail attended TLA in San Antonio the end of March. New Business: none Old Business: · Due to other obligations, Mr. Graves is unable to serve as a member of the board at this time. · Jennifer Wallace has indicated that she would be interested. Mary moved that Jennifer be contacted and asked to be a member of the board. Pia seconded. Motion carried. · A letter has been sent to Henry and he has indicated that he would like to continue on the board. · A slide presentation on playground construction by Leathers and Associates was given by Norma. The park would be build by approximately 500 volunteers under the direction of Leathers and Associates personnel. Ruth moved that the LAB endorse a park site in the area near the back of the library. Pia seconded. Motion carries. The motion to adjourn was made by Julie and seconded by Ruth.
