LAB 08-06-2001 e SCHERTZ PUBLIC LmRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on August 6, 2001 with the following members present: Barbara Ricks Julie Parr Ruth Tienor Margaret Riley Jennifer Wallace Norma Head Gail Douglas Mary McAllister Minutes: Minutes were presented. Margaret moved to approve the minutes and Ruth seconded the motion. Motion carried. Treasurer's Report: Julie presented the May, June, and July reports. Ruth moved to approve the reports and Mary seconded. Motion carried. e Librarian's Report: · Thanks to DeeDee Dale for her work on the 4th of July float. The float won a first place trophy. · Summer Reading Program was very successful. Jeff Wallace (pilot), Jennifer Wallace (Alaska), Mrs. Dale's daughter (NASA), Norma Head (shapes/bubbles), Pia Jarman (origami), City of Schertz personnel (fire, police, water, EMS), DeeDee Dale (crafts), and Simone Bailey presented and participated in the reading program. · June stats were down. Last year during this time there were 2 children's reading times (Wed. and Sat.). Also this year video check out has changed to 1 week. · July stats were up by about 2,500 over last year. Internet usage has doubled. · TIF grant has been written and will be submitted even though the due date has passed. Committee Reports: Policy - Committee met and reviewed the Internet Policy. There were several questions regarding filtering and children under 12 accompanied by their parents. The committee will meet with Gail on Thursday evening at 7:30. New Business: · Gail recommended to continue with the Collection Development Policy without any changes. Ruth moved to accept the Collection Development Policy as is. Mary seconded. Motion carried. · A shed is needed out back for storage as more space is needed in the back room in the Children's Library area. Gail has checked on prices and dimensions. Ruth moved that we allocate $1500 for a storage shed. Julie seconded the motion. Motion carried. Old Business: none Report from Council Representative: · Norma reported that Oct. 23rd is planning day for the new community park playground. Volunteers have been named to head various committees for this project. · The Animal Shelter has expanded their hours so that adoptions can be completed. e · City Council has been working on the budget. Ruth moved to adjourn the meeting. Margaret seconded. Motion carried.
