LAB 03-06-2000 . SCHERTZ PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD (LAB) MINUTES The LAB met on March 6, 2000 with the following members present: Margaret Riley Pattie Lovelady Julie Parr Ruth Tienor Norma Head Juan Thorn Pia Jarman Barbara Ricks Henry Guttierez Gail Douglas Minutes: The minutes for the February meeting were presented. Julie made the motion to accept the minutes. Pattie seconded the motion. The motion carried. Treasurer's report: An amendment to the September 1999 report was presented as well as reports for October, November, and December 1999. The October report presented is to replace the previous October report because the investment account had not been included. A report for January 2000 was also given. No report was available for February. As of January 31,2000 $19,000 is in the investment account. The bookstore deposits for January totaled $362.91. In February, $302.20 was /" /) ..-t-.J.. depesited for the bookstore. Pattie made the motion to accept the treasurer's report. 'v'C 1 t Ie Barbara seconded the motion. The motion carried. . . Librarian's Report: -The stats show 1,000 more than last February, but Gail reported that in reality the numbers are up 400-500 because more days were included. -The computers were down 6-7 days and caused major problems. Tony spent over 40 hours to get things back on track. He had to rebuild the server. No one knows what the problem was but things are back to normal. -The $100,000 grant was approved. Gail will be making computer purchases over the next couple of months. She also intends to buy a new color printer as well as pay part of the consulting fee. Furniture is not part of the grant, so those purchases will be paid from the budget. -$2,000 will be used to recover four pieces of furniture. Arrow Upholstery will do the job, which should take about three weeks. -The parking lot has been painted to include handicap spaces. -The tree in front of the library still needs to be cut down. -Gail spoke to Mr. Sweatt and they agreed to hang the old plaque as well as have a new one made. -Gail reported that trees from Schulz Nursery were very expensive, $300 each. Landscape of Texas can provide them for $150 each. A sketch of the plan needs to be made to determine where to plant the trees to cover the electrical panels. The city will provide $1,000 from the tree fund, with the rest of the money coming from board funds. The city may agree to pay for all of the trees. -Gail and Sandy are reevaluating their schedule changes. They have not seen any improvements, just more working hours on their part. Things may go back as they were. Committee Reports: None Old Business: None . Council Representative: - Pia Jarman reported that the Hwy. 78 project will take 2 years to complete. Driver patience and safety is encouraged. - The Industrial Park is filling up quickly. - Three baseball practice fields will be placed behind the Community Center. - City offices may be ready for move in by March 17.
