The Minutes were read and approved with a correction on the Memorial Fund from $22.30 to $22.03. LIBRARIANS REPORT There were 51 resident, 14 non-resident cards issued with 25 children attending Story Hour. There was $58.36 in fines collected with a circulation of 2,094 items. There are now 10,035 books, 160 records and 36 Film Strips. It was noted that we now own Film Strips for Special HOlidays, in case an organization would like to use them. They are: New Years, Valentines, St. Patricks, Mothers and Fathers Day, Halloween, Christmas, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Memorial, Independence, Washingtons' Birthday and Grimms Fairy Tales. There is to be a workshop on Sept. 11 at the San Antonio Library on the Benefits of State Membership. - On Sept. 27, at Boerne, a Dist. 10 workshop will be conducted on $1 per capita support for the Stat Library System. There was a large turnout for the Summer Reading Program Awards. Mayor Stomackin presented the awards. With the Awards each one received a coupon for Golden Fried Chicken, a game of Goofy Golf and a Free Swim at the Schertz Pool. COMMITTEE REPORTS 1. Hospitality Report: Dunkin Donuts provided Doughnuts and McDonalds provided Orange Drinks as the refreshment for the Awards Presentations. 2. Building Committee: Henry reported that the leaky Hot Water Heater has been disconnected and that the new drinking fountain is to be connected Tu~;.' ~lso reported that the City employee mowing ~he grass was careless with his job by not picking up or mowing around a pile of rocks and one was picked up by the mower striking the back door glass. Mr. Gooch from State Library Board visited on invitation from Linn and made his reccomendation that with available information from projected population increases that we should start with a new building of at least 5,000 sq. feet and not consider an old building. Discussion was held about prefab buildings advantages--disadvantages and cost. Henry will check on prices. Mr. Howe--counci1man--gave advice as to the savings on different kinds of labor by using professionals on weekends, wanting to supplement their income, after their regular working hours. 3. Book Committee: Linn reported the purchase of 17 Chi1drens Books used as samples. They were purchased from Dunscomb-Pathfinder, from Petty Cash at $3.00 each. UNFINISHED BUSINESS ------. 1. Discussion was held about the new hours to meet the State Requirements of 30 hours. Julie made a motion for a trial basis starting on Wed. and Fri. from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. starting Sept. 24th. Motion Carried. However should we find enough volunteers to staff the Library we may decide on a Sunday Trial Basis also as that was the preferred time taken from the survey. NEW BUS INi:!;S,~ Tne ~~~utive Board met at Ruths' at 3:30 P.M., Aug. 29th. to discuss the cancellation of the McNaughton Contract and switch' to purchasing from Ingram with no contract. The books from McNaughton were leased at app. $850 a year and returned to McNaughton or purchased at a discount and remain at our Library. Purchasing amount depending on number of books. With Ingram, there is no contract and when the book is purchased, it belongs-to Schertz. The only requirement is that when you purchase books the minimum be 10.books at a time. The Executi ve Board agreed we should try Ingrams. Margret reported the intention of Kermit HarbQrth to resign from the Librar,y Board. lhnna made a motion to accept Richard Bledsoe to fill the vacancy. Motion carried. Discussion was also held on different storage space for the books at the old Safes building by Sept. 30th as the building is sold. The report fro~ Rep. Kazan was to our inquirey of possible funds for a new building was that "No economic impact on the community would be derived fro a Librar,y Building Fund thru Revenue Sharing."
