LAB 04-03-1978 _t ., .. "- .,. LIBRARYADVillSORY BOARD MEETING APRIL 3, 1978 The regular meeting of the Library Advffisory Board was called to order at 7:05 P. M. Members present: Ruth Tienor, Marge Rakowsky, Harriet Lipps, Kay Sherman, Edith Cloud, Mary Neleigh, Evelyn Rogers, Jean Delonly, and new member Margaret Riley. Absent: Doug Mikus, Marguerite Martinez, and ~~~ ~~m9~r Kermit Harborth. The minutes of March 6, 1978 were read and approved. Ruth Tienor gave the following treasurer's report: Previous balance(2-28-78) Deposits: E. Perry Randolph OWC Mrs. Roy Richard Reimbursed from city Expenditures: Texas Surplus Thompsons Heffernans Jostens Balance on hand (3-31-78) $1497.60 25.00 376.50 100.00 9.45 36.00 100.50 9.22 24.25 1838.58 Committee reports and actions: Cataloging-Harriet Lipps reported that 1500 books have been catalogued. 423 books were donated by the Sinton Library, complete with cards. A letter of appreciation will be sent by the Board. She thanked the volunteers Linda Crail, Carolyn Pettigrew, Margaret Riley, Ellen Toth, and Kay Sherman for great amount of typing they had done. Subscriptions for library periodicals provided by District 10: BOOKLIST and LIBRARY JOURNAL. Finance-Kay Sherman reported on the sale of tickets for the raffle. Evelyn Rogers and ~ean Deloney will go to the Minnie Piper Foundation to find out which foundations we should apply to for aid. Remodeling-Mary Neleigh reported: -Congressman Kazen will furnish a flag, the Agricultural Yearbook, . and other books. -Gerard Electric may find fixtures to donate. -Sign is not ready yet -Mr. Dawson at Cib~lo Creek Creations will donate something. -Mr. Youmg at Goofy Golf will have a game night to collect-books. -HEB will have a book drive. -Cart is being stripped. -No word yet on carpeting. Policy-Marge Rakowsky reported: -Mailers prepared with Jim and Kay Sherman's help. -Daily procedure manual to be written. -Memorial books (preferably ordered by the accepted as well as cash contribmtions to , librarian) to be the fund. :" .. .." -2- -Applications will be submitted by the Board for the Texas Conference on Library and Information Services for City Manager Walter Hill, Helen Mikus, Ron Rakowsky, Mary Johnson, Ruth Tienor, Kay Sherman, Mary Neleigh, and Harriet Lipps. Publicity-Kay Sherman reported: -Library weekend will be declared by Mayor Bueker for June 3-4. -The Herald will help with publicity and a contest with dance tickets as prizes. -Need attention gimmic and activities such as bike-a-thon for children. New Business-Ruth Tienor reported: -Letters of resignation had been received from Jane Gordon and Barbara Hughes. New board members are Margaret Riley and Kermit Harborth. Margaret will serve on policy and cataloging. -The next Kelly AFB sale is Wednesday April 12. -The Dedication Committee will plan our opet.mng on June 4. The committee is Kay Sherman, chairman, June Krause, and Dona Grainger. -Head volunteer is needed to oversee the daily operation of the library. Teenagers wish to be incorporated into the volunteer program. -Film circuit is available when we are ready. -Reluctant Readers Workshop at San Antonio Public Library will be April 19. -Bandera Workshop will be April 24. Mary will drive. -J. Frank Dobie Trust Fund turned us down for the award. We will try again next year. -Dennis Dietz supplied catalogs with prices for tables, chairs, file cabinets, and desks. A special board meeting will be called when a decision is needed on ordering furniture. -A bike rack which is weighted (256#) and holds 18 ~ikes is preferred by the board. A ~lague o~ the building dedicated to the citizens of Schertz was suggested. -Windows and flag pole need paint. Water fountain drain fixed so that it no longer drains into the parking lot. Citizens to be heard: -Mary Neleigh has requested of the Schertz Elementary PTC a donation of $100 for children's books.
